The Feeling to be Freezed in Hot Summer!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
The mountain…
It is the best spot in Kitakyushu to visit during super hot this summer.
To be accurate it is not a mountain but a plateau,
the highland “HIRAO-DAI” where Kitakyushu proud of.
On the top of a plateau, there is a big grass field.
And white rocks, called pinnacle, looks like sheep, dotted among the grass field.
Our destination locates behind the field, where we have to drive down a little.
After walking down from the parking lot, we could see the entrance.
Yes, the entrance of “SENBUTSU Cave”.
After changing shoes to sandals, paying the fee and climb up the stairs,
we saw the mysterious entrance.
Once we walked into the cave, we are wrapped by the cold air.
The temperature is 16°C in which we don’t need air conditioner.
We rather want to wear jacket there.
Let’s go into the deep.
At first, in the cave, we saw wide hole and narrow but high ceiling corridor alternately.
The path was well maintained and easy to walk.
After about 15min walk, we arrived narrow place and found stair to down.
And we saw water under the stairs.
It is the stream underground.
The best part of this cave is here, waking in the stream underground.
Water temperature is 14°C all year round.
It is a little colder than cold water bath in hot sauna bath.
The part of the cave we walked through in water is more mysterious.
Sometimes, we have to pass unbelievable narrow place and low place.
It is really adventurous atmosphere.
After we arrived at the deepest lighted area,
we went back toward the entrance.
Closer and closer we walked to the entrance,
we could feel hot and humid air outside.
Honestly I didn’t want to go out.
Recently, guests who visited TOUKA have faces distorted by the extremely hot weather.
We really want the guests with such faces to visit this cave.
It is “the feeling to be freezed”.
However after the research at the real field,
we found out that the access to the cave for travelers is not easy.

体験して欲しい、、猛暑に凍える思い、北九州で！
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
この山、、、
北九州に来て、この暑い夏に訪れるのには最高のスポットです。
正確には、山というよりは台地、北九州の誇る高原「平尾台」です。
車で上り詰めたその台地には草原が広がっていました。
そして草原のあちこちにピナクルというまるで羊のような石灰岩が点在しています。
今回の目的地はその草原を少し下ったところにあります。
駐車場からさらに歩いて下るとその入口が見えてきます。
そうカルスト台地の下にできた洞窟「千仏鍾乳洞」です。
用意されている無料のサンダルに履き替え、入場料を払い、
入り口に向かう階段を登ると、神秘的な洞窟がその口を開いています。
そして洞窟に入ったとたんに、外界を忘れさせる冷気に包まれます。
その気温16℃！ 冷房要らずどころか、、、
タンクトップで行った自分は上着がほしいぐらいでした。
奥へ、、、
最初のうち、洞窟は広い広間、細くて高い天井を繰り返します。
見学道は整備されていてとても歩きやすいです。
15分ほど奥に進むと下に向かう階段があり、その階段の下に見えるのが、、、
なんと地下の小川！
その小川の中を歩いて進むのが、この鍾乳洞最大の醍醐味なんです。
水温は14℃。サウナにある水風呂より冷たい温度です。
冷たい水の中を進みながら見る鍾乳洞はさらに神秘的で、
時には、こんなところ通れるのかよ！と思う狭い低い箇所があって、
昔見たバラエティ番組の探検隊の隊長になった気分を味わえます。
照明がある最深部まで行って折り返し、入り口に戻ると、
外気の影響で少しづつ蒸し暑くなってくるのを感じ、
正直、洞窟から出たくなくなる感じです。
最近、当宿を訪れるゲストに共通の、、、
「想定外の暑さに歪んだ表情」。
そんな、表情のゲスト達に是非体験してもらいたい
、、、「猛暑なのに凍える思い」 です。
ただ現地まで行って調べたところ、
鍾乳洞へのアクセスは、旅行者にとって決して便利ではありません。
