One brainwashing

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

The manager of this guesthouse TOUKA concern one thing in this season.

It was happening in the south sea.

We, Japanese people, are often brainwashed by TV programs/commercials, supermarket announcement and so on to eat one food material in this time of a year. 

The food material is EEL, of course.

On the contrary, most of all Japanese know that Japanese eel is endangered species.

Isn’t this strange?

The people who promote us Japanese to eat eel may say that the eels we are eating mainly are farmed eels, aren’t them?

However how about young eels which are used for the farming?

When I was traveling east coast of Taiwan, I happened to see huge numbers of fishing fires on evening sea. The guesthouse owner taught me that the lights are for fishing young eels. Because Japanese people like to eat eels, young eels can be sold at a high price. I always remember this episode this time of a year.

Young eels caught in Taiwan seems to be brought to Japan through some very dubious routes, which are sometimes called as “eel laundering”.

(Some kind of regulation change seemed to be made in 2021, and we hope the routes are much clearer and regal now.)

We can imagine that now more eels are farmed in China, pre-cooked and exported to Japan by them.

Don’t you feel strange when you hear that many Japanese people enjoy eating endangered species like Japanese eels as well as bluefin tunas.

ある洗脳

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

宿主はこの時期になると、気になることがひとつあります。

それは南の海での出来事です。

この時期になると、日本ではテレビやスーパーの店内案内などいたるところで「ある食材」を食べよう食べようと洗脳されます。

もちろんその食材とは、、、もちろん「うなぎ」です。

その反面で、日本人はその食材 “日本うなぎ” が絶滅危惧種に指定されていることを知っています。

なんかおかしくないですか？

必要以上に日本人をうなぎ消費に焚き付けている人たちは、「だって食べてるうなぎは養殖でしょ？」と言うかもしれません。

でも、その養殖うなぎの元である稚魚（シラス）は？

たまたま宿主は旅先の台湾東岸沖で漁をしていた異様なまでの漁船団の明かりを見ると同時に、台湾の宿のオーナーから、あれはうなぎの稚魚の漁で、日本人が重宝しているから高く売れるんだよと教えてもらったことをこの時期になると思い出します。

台湾で獲られたうなぎの稚魚はその後、どうも怪しいルート（ロンダリング）を経て養殖用として日本にやってきているようです。

（2021年に何らかの規制緩和があったとかで、少しは明白ルートになっていればいいのですが、、、）

きっと今では中国で養殖されて、加工されてから日本に入ってくるものも少なくないでしょうね。

そもそも、マグロも加わって絶滅危惧種をありがたく競って食する国民が大声でSDGsを唱えている姿に違和感を感じませんか？
