It is not always good, which guidebook tells you famous.
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
This town is now famous for tourism but there is few people except people who lives here or neighbor areas who know these sightseeing spot was created about only 20 years ago.
I also knew this town more than 30 years before. I don’t know very well about recent 20 years of development. So I am struggling to find really good place, food and service to recommend for our guests.
Specially food is my biggest concern in recent months.
It seems many guest try to eat “the speciality” guidebooks are recommending. So I tried to ask them “How was it?” as the reference for the next and future guest.
Their reactions have been not so good unfortunately.
It is very interesting that their reactions are almost same as the people who knows the past of this town more than 20 years ago.
It is almost one year has passed since I returned to this town, and I am realizing the importance to guide tourist from overseas countries honestly. This is because I strongly feel that we should avoid tourists’ “disappointing” as well as “discomfort” as a person in tourism business.
In these days, I have recommended the food (place, service) which I really like and want to take again and again, and our guests satisfy it and say thank you for the advice.
This is one of the example of good food in our town.
Picture is the speciality of the restaurant, “GOBOU-TEN UDON (490JPY)”.
This Udon restaurant locates a little far from center of our town but they serve fine Udon. Reactions of our guests who visited this place were not bad.
(I really think that real fine restaurants locate a little far from the center.)
I now think that I will recommend real fine food (place, service) for our precious guests.

ガイドブックに載っているものが旨いとは限らない
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
この港町は今でこそ観光地の顔をしていますが、実はこの20年ばかりで作られた観光地であることを知っている人は住民・近隣地域の方々以外では少ないのではないでしょうか。
30年以上前の故郷しか知らない自分にとって、この20年間の郷土はベールにつつまれています。 実は現在も浦島太郎の気分で「オススメ」の場所、食べ物、サービスを模索する日々が続いています。
なかでも最近、一番気にしているのは「食べ物」です。
当宿を利用される外国人旅行者はガイドブックが紹介する我が町の名物料理と言われている食べ物に滞在初日の夜にトライされる方が多いようです。 宿を切り盛りする立場として、未来のゲストさんに勧める目的からも、努めてその名物料理を食べての印象を聞くようにしています。
さて、その結果は、、、
正直、彼らの印象はあまり芳しくありません。
面白いことに、その反応は観光地開発以前のこの町を知る人の反応に極めて近いものです。
この町に戻って、まもなく1年が経つ今、「正直ベースでガイドする」重要性に気付きました。
なぜなら、観光を生業とするものにとって「期待ハズれ感」は「不快」の次に避けるべきものではないかと考えるからです。
ここのところ、当宿の大切なゲストさんには、自分が本当に好きで、何度でも食べに行きたくなるものだけを紹介し、満足していただけるようになってきました。
そのひとつがこちら。
写真はその店の代表メニュー「ごぼう天うどん (490円）」。
観光エリアの中心からは少し離れますが、リーズナブルで なかなか旨いうどんを食わしてくれます。ゲストさんたちの反応もいたって良好です。
（えてして、この町・この街の真の名店は意外と中心から遠いところにある気がして仕方ありません。）
これからもこのうどんの様に、本当に旨いものをゲストに紹介していきたいと考える今日この頃です。
「王様の耳はロバの耳」もしくは「はだかの王様」、子供の頃、童話で学んだように、、、
