Super fine Japanese sweet in Winter!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
The second Monday of January is “Seijin no Hi” (Coming-of-Age Day) holiday. This holiday make 3-day-off for Japanese.
Monday is the day, but this city hold Coming-of-Age ceremony on Sunday, one day prior to the day. So there is no young adults in Kimono in this town, in spite of hundreds of them in other city.
Instead of the ceremony, free OSHIRUKO* party was held on Monday in the city of Kitakyushu.
(*Oshiruko is traditional winter sweet in Japan, which is bean soup and baked rice cake.) It was announced that 2,000 cups of soup are served in one day. For FREE!
The party was held in Kokura-jo (Castle) park just in front of the entrance of the castle. It is because rice cakes, used for Oshiruko, were the cut Kagami-Mochi (new year’s rice cake for display during new year week) in the castle.
I arrived at the castle 30min before the start of the event.
However, there was already a line of people and approx. 200 people were in front of me.
Soon, more people after me.
I was in the line for a little less than an hour, and induced into the large tent covered by Japanese red and white striped curtain.
Cups of Oshiruko were prepared on the table.
Long time, cold wind and unexpected rain during the line made the Oshiruko extremely tasty for me.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
「成人の日」、北九州市では成人式をいち早く前日の日曜日に終えているので、残念ながら本当の成人の日には振袖姿の初々しい女の子たちを一度に大勢みることができません。
（スーパー・ド派手だとマスコミで騒がれていたようですが、、、）
その代わり(?)、冬のスイーツが無料で振る舞われるという情報を入手し行ってきました。
「おしるこ会」
会場はガイジン観光客なら絶対に訪れる、一番人気の市内観光スポット！
そう、小倉城。 その天守閣前広場です。
つい先日、鏡割りされた城内の大鏡餅を使って、2,000食分用意されたようです。
スタート時間の30分前に小倉城に着くもすでに人の列、その数おおよそ200人。
スタッフとして駆り出された地元大学の地域創生学部の学生さんたちの手招きで後尾に。 待っているうちにドンドン後ろにも人が増えていきます。
（お城のゆるキャラ「とらっちゃ」達も、お・も・て・な・し）
小一時間並んで、ようやく列の先頭に。
紅白横断幕で囲われたテントに誘導され、そこに準備されていたおしるこを美味しくいただいたのでした。
待った時間の長さ、風の冷たさ、さらには想定外の雨にも降られたおかげで、おしるこはいっそう美味しいものと感じられました。
そんなスーパー美味しいおしるこ、美しいお城を見ながらいただく素敵なイベント、一度一緒に行ってみませんか？ そうそう、今年のイベントは終わってしまったので、来年のお正月の話になりますが、、、
