The movie “A Man called Pirate”, which has a model Mr. Sazou Idemitsu, a founder of Idemitsu Kousan in Japan, seems to be spending hard time to keep good position at the box office.
We have supported/recommended this move as a guesthouse TOUKA. Now we will share the method, how to make your movie appreciation 10 times more interesting and support this movie as a fun of Mr. Sazou Idemitsu.

To visit “Idemitsu Founding Museum” before movie.
“Idemitsu Founding Museum” is located next to Idemitsu Art Museum (Moji), not Idemitsu Art Museum (Tokyo).
We can see real goods and photos of the time, when he founded first shop in Moji, not fiction company Kunioka Shoten.
To watch the movie “Japanese (digest version)” in “Idemitsu Founding Museum”
“Japanese” is a movie produced by the company “Idemitsu Kousan” with the purpose to train its employees. The casts are surprising not because so many popular actor/actress played in movie “Japanese”, but because I feel both movie “Japanese” and “A Man called Pirate” are related each other very much. I also feel Director Yamasaki’s respect to “Japanese”.
As story of “Japanese” is about fist 10 years of Idemitsu, it complements weak point of “A Man called Pirate” There are also many scenes in “Pirate” which was influenced by scenes of “Japanese”.
In addition to above point, I recommend you to stay at TOUKA after visiting “Idemitsu Founding Museum” in Mojiko and enjoy watching the view of the sea and Shimonoseki Port, where the pilate ran every morning in those days. But I don’t force you. If you are too rich to stay at TOUKA, please stay in high grade hotel in Moji side where Idemitsu was founded.

１０倍楽しくなる方法
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
郷土の起業家、出光興産の創業者「出光佐三」をモデルにした映画「海賊とよばれた男」。
情報筋によると観客動員（興行成績）でかなり苦戦しているようです。
この映画については、公開前から「灯火」イチオシで薦めてきたのですが、、、
その理由も含めて「この映画を何倍も楽しくみる方法」をみなさんと共有することで、一人の佐三ファンとしてなんとかこの映画を後方支援できないかと非力ながらトライします。
まずは「映画が５倍楽しくなる方法」：
● 小説「海賊とよばれた男」を読むこと
映画の批評にもあるように、上下2巻に渡る対策を、2時間弱の映画にまとめることはかなり無理があります。「本屋大賞」に選ばれるほど価値のある2冊です。 個人的には会社員として働く人、人の上に立つ立場の人には是非読んでもらいたいと考えます。本を読んだ上で映画を見ると、読書で想像する以上の迫力画像がさらに想いを駆り立ててくれます。
次に「映画が１０倍楽しくなる方法」：
●「出光創業資料室」を訪れること：
「出光創業資料室」は門司の「出光美術館」に併設された施設です。東京の「出光美術館」にはない貴重な資料館です。
ここを訪れると、想像の国岡商店ではない、本当の出光商店が営まれた証を直接見ることで、よりリアルな体験として映画の時代背景を感じることができます。
商店の看板や当時の写真、日章丸の模型・ジオラマなどは感動モノです。
●「出光創業資料室」で 映画「日本人（短縮版）」を見ること：
映画「日本人」は昭和40年代に出光興産が社内用に制作し、入社式の後など社員教育用に利用された映画です。 社内映画なのに当時の映画界の豪華キャストが出演していることも驚きですが、なによりも自分はこの「日本人」と「海賊とよばれた男」の2つの映画がどうも呼応・共鳴している気がしてなりません。 山崎監督の「日本人」に対する敬意も感じることが出来ます。 また「日本人」は出光草創期10年についての記録映画なので、「海賊とよばれた男」の薄い部分を補完してくれるだけでなく、安川社長との出会いなど出光の礎を見ることは、以降のドラマの原点であり、欠かせない情報だと感じています。 各シーンには「海賊とよばれた男」が間違いなく参考にしたであろうカットも多く非常に興味深いです。
（＊ちなみに国岡商店の社歌は流れません。笑）
そして、できれば「出光創業資料室」を見た日には当宿「灯火」に宿泊いただき、門司側の客室から関門海峡や下関港を望み、当時に思いを馳せていただく（出来ればこれからの日本人についても語ったり）と最高なのですが、そこは強要は致しません。 お金のある方はもっと立派な創業地「門司」側の宿にお泊りいただければ、よろしいかと思います。
