Against all expectations!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

He is on the special article in a local free paper issued just before grand open of the station.

From users point of view, his decision affects the value of the station rather than the expensive repair work of the station.

The decision “Timetable Revision” will be announced very soon.

His decision of last year was “Timetable Deterioration”. That disappointed us very much, as both residents of this town and worker engaged in tourism. There was no additional revision which we expected. As the result of his decision, most of foreign tourists who came Mojiko have been confused by the only two train in an hour during time zone when speciality Yaki Curry shops are open.

Even before that, they were surprised at the expensive fee of public transportation in Japan. In addition, less frequency of train made guests’ reputation worse and we can feel it during talking with them. To make matters worse, they are spreading it through internet, not claiming as feedback in pubic.

They had good image about railroad/subway system in Japan as punctual, clean, comfortable. But they feel betrayed after traveling to Kitakyushu and Kanmon. Because they come here, Japan, with the cheapest air ticket.
(Recently, we see many guests using several “One Day Bus Pass” which they got in their country. But unfortunately, they got exhausted after one day trip, because bus is time consuming transportation.)

Spending money to repair historical station can be meaningless if no one use it as a station. (There is such a station in Tokyo.)

Our kind guests often explain us how cheap and convenient their subway system are. When we visited their country, we are really surprised because it is so cheap and convenient as they said.

Fortunately, we are getting reservations from repeater guest lately. So we are planning to focus which transportation they will use to come here, based on their experiences of first time visit.

Train station with fancy building but without passengers,
Shopping street with history but many shuttered shops, and
High schools with tradition but without students.
Our home town have so many such facilities, which lost the most important essence.

Learn wisdom by the follies of others!

We are making our mind not to make TOUKA a guesthouse with good view but no guests staying.

期待とは裏腹に！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

駅のグランドオープンを前に、町のフリーペーパーを飾った特集記事。

実は特集されている人物の決断は、箱物としての駅のグランドオープンよりも、利用者視点での駅の価値を決定します。

その決断「春のダイヤ改正」が公表されるのは、もうまもなく。

昨年発表された決断は「春のダイヤ改悪」で、この地域に生活する人間としても、観光業界に従事する者としても、とってもガッカリするものでした。期待したその後の見直しもなく、名物の焼きカレー屋の稼ぎ時に一時間に二本しか走らない電車は、結果として外国人観光客を戸惑わせています。

以前より、その利用料金の高さから観光客を驚かせていた公共交通機関が、約３０分おきにしか運行しなくなり、ゲストとの会話から感じる評価はガタ落ちです。その評価も「文句」として公にフィードバックされるものなら良いのですが、戸惑った結果に「使えない」の烙印を押されて、ネットでじわじわと拡散し始めているようです。

旅行前に聞く日本の鉄道の正確、清潔、快適という評判は、悪い意味で北九州・関門旅行で裏切られているようです。せっかく一番安い航空券で日本に来たのに、、、
（最近は自国で旅行前にしか購入できない西鉄バスの一日観光パスを数枚手に観光しているゲストが想像以上に多いです。で、バスも時間的に不便なため、皆さん移動だけで疲れてしまいます。）

せっかくお金をかけて改装した駅も、移動手段として使ってもらえないと意味がありません。（たしかそんな駅が東京にあります。）

親切なゲスト達は観光から戻ってくると、口々に自国の公共交通機関の安さ・便利さを解説してくれます。実際に彼らの国を訪れてみると、なるほど異様にまで安く・便利なことに驚かされます。

幸い、３年目となる当宿ではリピーターゲストからの予約が増えています。前回の経験を踏まえて彼らがどの交通手段で宿まで来るのか、これから注目していきたいと考えています。

建物は立派だけれど、列車の来なくなった駅、
歴史はあるけれど、シャッターの降りた店ばかりの商店街、
伝統は語り継がれるけど、生徒のいない名門(?)校、
そんな「本質」を失った施設の溢れる我がふるさとです。

人の振り見て我が振り直せ！

客室からの景色は素晴らしいけど、客のない宿になるのだけは避けたいと戒めています。
