Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

He is our first guest from western countries in a long time.

Not only guests from Asian countries, but also he was pretty much into traveling this town.

His episode was about one kind local worker.

According to him, he was trying to visit a place where his friends was staying. As he didn’t know the area, he caught taxi and asked the driver to bring him there. However, taxi driver drove him to quite strange place. After getting of the taxi, he couldn’t know where he was.

So he asked a man who is working in his garage/work shop about the place. The man showed him how to go and the man stopped working and gave him a ride to the place.

Similar episodes that foreign travelers surprised at kindness and heart warming hospitality of local people were told by Asian travelers.

We almost reached to the conclusion of “That is the TRUE/REAL SALES POINT of this town with these episodes.

As it is known that Japan is the one of hottest countries to travel for foreign travelers. But out town is less than second grade, maybe third grade or possibly fourth grade as a sightseeing spot.

Actually, many guests clearly mentioned that they are not expecting here except duty free shopping at their local airport and shopping cosmetics here. They just decide to come here because they got super cheap air ticket.

However they found after they landed on this area that this place is full of “kindness and heart warming hospitality of local people” not like big city as Osaka and Fukuoka.

In case of western tourists, they thought this place as just a transit point of trip through whole Japan. But they found that this is quite easy place to stay.

Now, our local government is carrying out the questionnaire to foreign travelers around this town, such as “Where did you visited?” or “Where did you stay?”.

However the biggest sales point of this town is …

“Natural but first graded hospitality of local people”. We are really confirming lately.

It is a difficult sales point for local government to promote in public. We hope they won’t misread this. We afraid that they will make this town worthless for tourists.

それこそが一番のセールスポイント！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

そのゲストは久々の欧米圏からの旅行者でした。

アジア圏からのゲストからよく聞く話ですが、彼もまたこの町にやられた一人になりました。

彼の話では、友人の滞在先を訪問するにあたり、宿の情報を頼りに、タクシーに乗り込んだそうで、そのタクシーに降ろされたのが、右も左もわからない場所だったようです。

困り果てて、目の前の建物で仕事をしていた地元男性に場所を訪ねると、その人は仕事をしていた手を休めて、彼をその場所まで車で案内してくれたそうです。

同様の「ひとの優しさ・温かさ」については、よくアジア人の旅行者から驚いたと感動して話してくれるのを聞くことがあるのですが、、、

つまり、この町の魅力はソコだろうという結論が見えはじめています。

外国人旅行者の間で、最近話題になっているとされる「日本旅行」ですが、わが町などは観光地としてはまちがいなく二流以下、三流、もしかしたら四流です。

彼らにはハッキリ言われます。航空券が安く手に入ったので、観光そっちのけ、自国の空港を出る際の免税品ショッピングと、コスメ等の「買い物重視」でココに来てみたら、、、

意外や意外、大阪や福岡のような大都会とは違う「ひとの優しさ・温かさ」に触れて、この町のファンになってしまうケース少なくないようです。

欧米人の場合は、、、

日本縦断旅行をしている途中に立ち寄ったら、温かい人との触れ合いに、意外やスゴく心地よい場所だったというケースが殆どです。

当自治体は至る所で「どこ訪問しました？」とか「どこ泊まりました？」的な外国人観光客アンケートを展開しているようですが、

実はこの町のセールスポイントとは、、、

「住んでいる人間の魅力」みたいです。最近、確信しています。

自治体としては、なかなか売り込みにくい「セールスポイント」ですが、ここを読み違えると「せっかくのチャンス」を逃してしまうかもしれませんね。

P.S. ちなみに「この町」とは北九州・関門エリアのことを指します。誤解なきよう明記します。
