Important advise from far away!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
Wednesday morning, phone started to ring when I was watching TV news and weather forecast.
As we receive guests’ reservations through internet in most cases, I guess the phone call was from the guest who want to stay the same day. However the person on the other end of the line told “Hello. This is Sato of Iwate speaking.” That voice reminds me a person of north land.
The Sato -san is one of the survivor families of the Great East Japan Earthquake for whom I had helped cleaning house through volunteer activity.
Since the first met with the family, I’ve visited to Sato -san whenever I visited Iwate for other volunteer activities and cycling through Sanriku coast to feel their recoveries.
Sato -san watched TV news who is telling “Kyushu may have tremendous volume of heavy rain, that normal rain of one month of July will fall in one day” and Sato -san couldn’t help making phone call to me to advice “Please evacuate by own decision without waiting any alerts or instructions” Sato -san were really worried about this guesthouse.
On 3.11 in 2011, big Tsunami washed whole 1st floor of Sato -san’s newly built house. So they worried about me, as if it were their own self. I felt really happy with touching their sincere/kind advice.
Fortunately, I learned the importance of “protect myself by self decision” directly through the volunteer activities and talking with actual victims in Tohoku and I got the idea into my head. So TOUKA is already well prepared for proactive evacuation without overconfidence about security.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
水曜朝、ニュースと気象情報を見ていると突然電話が鳴りました。
宿泊予約はほとんどがメールなので、電話が鳴ると当日の利用問合せかと構えてしまいましたが、名乗った名前は「岩手の佐藤」さん。一瞬誰か分からず焦りましたが、一息ついて考えるとすぐに顔が浮かびました。
東日本大震災のボランティアでお宅の整理のお手伝いをした被災者の方です。
その後もボランティア活動や、復興を体感する自転車の旅などをする度に、必ずご挨拶に伺っている東北のご家族です。
ニュースで「九州の大雨は一日で７月ひと月分が降る可能性がある」と聞いて居ても立ってもいられなくなって電話をくれたようです。「警報や指示など待たずに、ご自身で判断して、早め早めに避難してくださいね」と真剣にご心配いただきました。
佐藤さんは当時新築したばかりのご自宅の一階部を津波に流されてしまった津波被災体験者。九州の状況は他人事ではないようです。この宿のことを思い出して電話いただくなど、有り難くもうれしくなりました。
幸い、自分はボランティアを通して、佐藤さんを含む被災者皆さんのお話を現地で聞き「自分の身は自分で守る」ことの大切さを頭に叩き込んだので、ゲストの安全も考慮してプロアクティブに動くための準備は万端です。
