At this time of year, it would be nice to give some advice in response to inquiries from our guests.
The inquiry was about souvenirs.
And here is the answer to that inquiry.
Chocolate Bolt (& nut) which is a good souvenir typical of this industrial town.
The reason they are happy with the chocolate is because Valentine’s Day is coming up.
In fact, the screw part of this chocolate is elaborately made, and the chocolate bolt is also firmly connected to the chocolate nut.
So, this advice is strictly for adult guests only.
Speaking of screws, in Japan the bolt side is called ONEJI and the nut side is called MENEJI.
I was taught at the machine shop of the local subsidiary in the U.S. where I was dispatched that they also call male thread and female thread in English.
Although the structure is exactly as the name suggests, it is quiteinteresting.
In Japan, the appearance of department stores and supermarkets has changed since last weekend. Especially around the entrances.

Globally, women are not the only senders. In fact, it is a minority in Japan and other countries that consider it a day for women to give gifts.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
この時期になると、ゲストさんからの問合せに対して、アドバイスすると喜ばれるものがあります。
その問合せとは、お土産について。
そして、その問合せに対する答えとは、、、こちら。
工業の街らしいお土産「ネジチョコ」です。
なぜ喜ばれるかというと、バレンタインが近いから。
実はこのチョコレート、ネジ部分の精巧な作りで、チョコレートのボルトは同じくナットにしっかりと結合します。
というわけで、このアドバイスはしっかり大人のゲスト向け限定ですけれど。
ネジといえば、日本ではボルト側を雄ネジ、ナット側を雌ネジと呼びますが、
英語でもMale, Femaleと呼び分けると、駐在先の現地法人の機械場で教えてもらいました。
その名の通りの構造とはいえ面白いですよね。
日本では先週末あたりから、デパートもスーパーも様相が変わっています。特にその入り口周辺で。
大切な誰かに素敵な贈り物をいかがですか？
世界的には、送り主は女性だけとは決まっていません。むしろ女性が贈る日ということになっているのは日本をはじめ少数派です。
