We thought about “retro” a little more deeply.
“Retro” means something that feels nostalgic when someone looks at it or touches it.
To achieve this, the presence of people who feel nostalgic is essential to be “retro.”
We found that this is probably the reason why people don’t call it “EDO retro” or “MEIJI retro.”
Considering this, the theme of this town is “TAISHO Retro.”
How many people in Japan today feel nostalgic for the Taisho era?
Even if there were people born in the TAISHO era, they would have no memories of their babyhood or childhood, and in the first place, most of them now live in special facilities.
Who knows what’s so “retro” about this town?
We realized once again how difficult to come up with a name that can stand the test of time.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
「レトロ」について、もう少し掘り下げて考えてみた。
それを見て触れて「どこか懐かしい」と感じるのが「レトロ」。
そのためには「懐かしい」と感じる人の存在が「レトロ」には不可欠となる。
これはおそらく「江戸レトロ」とか「明治レトロ」と言わない理由なのだろうと考える。
そう考えると、この町がテーマアップしているのは「大正レトロ」。
今、日本で大正時代を懐かしいと感じる人がどれだけいるだろうか？
大正時代生まれがいたとして、彼らに乳幼児期の記憶はないだろうし、そもそも今や特別な施設に入っているケースがほとんどでは？
そうなると、この町の「レトロ」さって誰が分かるんだろう？
時間の経過に耐えうるネーミングの難しさをあらためて感じました。
