Harder than it looks!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
Waves become bigger and smaller cyclically. Of course bigger wave has more power, but its power depends on the thickness as well as the size.
Friday’s waves are 2 meters high in average. Even similar 1.8 meters waves has different power depends on the thickness. So surfers choose thicker swell before it become a wave for them to ride. If he could ride on it successfully, the wave bring him almost to the shore. But if he is wiped out from the wave, he may be tumbled hard as if he is in a washing machine. It is too hard to be drowned, if he is without his surfboard.
We got felt enough tumbled in less than 2 meters wave, so we cannot imagine how hard bigger than 10 meters wave with tremendous thickness strikes us.
Because surfers always face to the waves with respects, we could feel actual fear about TSUNAMI which attacked Tohoku shores.
As of March 11th, it will be 9 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake. I do feel that I should face to waves and our mother nature with respect.

見た目より強烈！
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
波は周期的に大きくなったり、小さくなったりします。もちろんサイズによりパワーが異なるのですが、同じくらいの大きさであっても、その厚みによってエネルギーが全然違ってきます。
金曜の波は大きくて２ｍ弱、例えば180cmほどの同じような波でもその厚さによりパワーが違うので、波乗りは波になる前のうねりの段階から厚みのある波を選びます。
うまく乗れれば岸近くまでエキサイティングなライドを楽しませてくれる波ですが、不幸にも途中で脱落（ワイプアウト）してしまうと、まるで洗濯機の中で揉まれているような感覚を味わいます。その状態たるや、板がなければ、不安で溺れてしまいそうなほどです。
２ｍいかない波でも強烈にもみくちゃにされるので、途方も無いほどの厚みをもつ１０m超えの波がどれほどのパワーを持つのか想像もつきません。
常々、波に対して絶大なる敬意を払って接しているからこそ、東北を襲った大波については身をもって脅威を感じます。
そんな大波から今年で９年、、、自然を侮ることなく、敬意をもって接していこうと感じるこの頃です。
