It is the time for Japanese to think about the fish!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
When I went to the supermarket, my eyes stopped at one sale item.
For next one week, huge number of eel will be consumed to stomachs of Japanese people.
(*Next one week is the time most of all Japanese people eat eels.)
I heard that Japanese eel was classified as endangered species and people are discussing about reducing number of catching baby eels in Pacific ocean. Occasionally, I have met a scene which we cannot see in Japan last autumn.
The place was Taiwan. I have enjoyed surfing at the beach of east coast. When I finished surfing and going back to the guesthouse, I saw unbelievable number of ships were going out to the Pacific ocean with bright lights.
(Many fishing boats and fishing lights on the night sea.)
The guesthouse owner who enjoyed surfing together taught me
“The ships are going out for catching baby eels.”
“Baby eels will be sold to Japanese broker at good price.”
There are fishing nets along the beach and he taught me those nets are also to catch baby eels.
Japanese people says that we do not overfish baby eels. However Japanese strong buying power make other Asian people to overfish baby eels. Now I know it after this experience.
Eels can be caught in this home town and I got natural one one month ago. The fisher man said that the number of eels he catch is going down these days.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
ゲストハウスで使う品物をスーパーに買物に行って目に留まりました。
これから一週間、国内消費が急激に上がりますね。
最近では絶滅危惧種に選ばれたとかで、シラスウナギの漁獲制限が話題になっているようですが、日本では見ることの出来ない光景に思いがけず遭遇しました。
その場所は台湾、東海岸で一日中波乗りを楽しみ、日も傾いたからと宿に戻ろうとしていたときです。ビーチの脇にある漁港から信じられない数の船団が沖を目指して出向していきます。
（船団と沖の漁火。ちなみに沖に陸地や島はありません。）
一緒に波に乗っていた宿の主が教えてくれました。
「あれはシラスウナギの漁に出ていってるんだよ」
「とったシラスウナギはほぼ全数を日本が高値で買ってくれるんだよ」と。
ビーチの波打ち際にも目の細かい長い網がいくつも波に打たれていて、それらもシラスウナギ捕獲網だそうです。
日本人は乱獲していないと言っていても、海外から高値で買っている行為が、結果として他国での乱獲を促している現状を知りました。
この田舎でも、天然うなぎが取れるそうで、先日いただきました。弾力の強い味のあるうなぎでした。捕ってきた人に聞きましたが、やはり捕れる数は年々減っているそうです。
