We look at the Kanmon Strait every day.

After doing some research, it seems that there is almost no risk of earthquake or tsunami at our accommodation, which is 30m above sea level, but…

Here would be extremely dangerous in the event of a military emergency. It may be the biggest risk of this region.

The reason is clear when we look back at the last war.

How many mines were dropped in this narrow strait at that time…

We don’t need weapons for offense, but I think it’s absolutely necessary to have tools for defense.

I hope that this will be considered and implemented positively, especially since the leader of our potential enemy country is not sane.

We must prevent Honshu and Kyushu from being separated and key sea routes from becoming impassable!

歴史から学ぶ・備える

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

毎日眺めている関門海峡。

色々調べて、地震や津波のリスクは海抜30mの当宿ではほとんどなさそうですが、、、

有事の際に非常にヤバいです。この地域の最大のリスクかもしれません。

その理由は先の大戦を振り返れば明白！

当時、この細い海峡にどんだけの機雷が投下されたか、、、

そして、いまなお機雷除去作業は行われているし、掃海艇も結構配備されています。

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA（先日その中の一艇が沈没し、乗組員が一名死亡しましたね。）

パトリオットでもサーズでも、高性能の防空地対空ミサイル配備しておいてほしいです。

海上自衛隊下関基地と航空自衛隊芦屋基地に、、、

攻撃のための武器は要りませんが、防衛のためのツールは絶対に配備しておく必要があると思います。

仮想敵国のリーダーが正気じゃないからこそ、前向きに検討・実現して欲しいものです。

本州と九州が分断、海の要所が通行不可能にならないように！

時代と世代 / Era and Generation

Era and Generation

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Speaking of communication with our guests from foreign countries,

ever since we opened, I have felt a sense of discomfort.

That happens when young guests from neighbor country bring their parents.

From the view point of age, their parents are almost same age as mine, but in terms of generations, I couldn’t help but think that they were one more older generation.

（It is funny but their parents also seem to look at me and think I’m very young.）

Out of curiosity, I decided to look for the reason.

The most helpful thing for that purpose was

HISTORY.

What I found out is that young people from neighbor country who are actively traveling now are close to me from the perspective of the post-Olympic generation, as a result of comparing events such as wars and the Olympics that occurred in the modern history of both Japan and their country.

By the way, I remember that our generation had traveled around the world carrying travel guidebooks with blue edges.

I realized that today’s guest generation is jumping on planes with smartphones and the internet instead of those guidebooks.

To get to know the other person more deeply, it may be better to use “history” than a smartphone with translation application.

時代と世代

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

海外からのゲストさんとのコミュニケーションといえば、、、

開業以来、違和感を感じていることがあります。

それは隣国からの若いゲストさんが、親世代を一緒に連れていらっしゃる時。

年齢で見れば、ご両親はまさに宿主と同等の年齢になのですが、世代で言うともうひと昔の世代に思えて仕方ないのです。

（面白いことに、彼らの両親もまた自分を見てすごく若いと感じるようです。）

そんな好奇心から、その理由探しをすることにしました。

その際に一番参考になったのが、、、

歴史。

分かったのは日本と隣国とのそれぞれの現代史で起きた戦争・自国開催五輪などのイベントを比較した結果、今積極的に旅行している隣国の若者は、ポスト五輪世代という視点でまさに宿主と近いということです。

そういえば、宿主世代はその縁を青く染められていた当時人気の旅行ガイドブックを携えて世界各国をめぐっていましたね。

現代のゲスト世代は、かのガイドブックの代わりにスマホとインターネットを手に飛行機に飛び乗っているんだなぁと理解できました。

相手をより深く知るには、スマホや翻訳アプリよりも「歴史」かもしれませんね。

それでは、ぼーっとせずに、なぜなぜを五回繰り返して素敵な一日を！

この町にもあった！/ We have this too!

We have this too!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

We have felt inferior to other port towns in Japan, such as Yokohama, Kobe and Nagasaki, because of this.

(In my second hometown, Yokohama, there is outdoor swimming pool next to foreign cemeteries. And I like that atmosphere.)

But I found this in this town!

On the map, this is shown as “Chinaman’s Graveyard”, so I thought it was made for Chinese during Nara era.

But this cenotaph was made for French sailors.

Now we recognized that there is Gaijin Cemetery in this town.

この町にもあった！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

同じ港町でも、なんとなく横浜、神戸、長崎に引け目を感じていたのですが、、、

（第二の故郷、横浜には市民プールが併設されていたりして、本当にいい雰囲気です。）

我が町にもありました！

地図上は唐人墓と表示されているので、てっきり遣唐使の時代の中国からの使者のお墓かと思っていました。

ところが実はココに埋葬されているのは、フランス人水兵さんだそうです。

我が町にも明治維新の頃の外国人墓地があったんですね。

それでは、160年ほど前に思いを馳せて素敵な一日を！
