Kanmon the special zones of OMOTENASHI*!
(*OMOTENASHI = Japanese which means hospitality)
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
We will share a little about wonderful episode of Kanmon.
She is a guest from neighbor country.
It was her very first solo trip to abroad.
She stayed here 4 nights and fully enjoyed Kitakyushu & Kanmon area.
Fully enjoyed?
What did she enjoyed very much?
According to her, she was impressed by the warm heart of local people here.
Following is the episode which she has experienced.
One hot and sunny day, she went to Shimonoseki for shopping and sightseeing.
After shopping at 100yen shop near the station, she took rest at a chair in front of the shop. And she saw a young shop clark running out shouting one Japanese word repeatedly.
Not bear that in her mind, she rode on a bus to Chofu where is the destination of the day. When she was in a souvenir shop, she found out that she lost her wallet somewhere. She talked with shop clark about it and one lady (one of clark, local person) suggested her to go back to the 100yen shop she did shopping and she drove her to station.
The guest was very very impressed by the ladies super kindness driving there.
As the result, she could find her precious wallet at 100yen shop.
After coming back this guesthouse, she told the story to me and recognized one thing and asked me.
“Yassan, what you call wallet in Japanese?”
Yes, she remembered the word 100shop clark shouting
“SAIFU, SAIFU, SAIFU*! ( Saifu = Wallet )”
Her episode is not only that.
She got impressed only in Honshu-side, but also in Kyushu-side.
When she was waiting for the train to go back TOUKA, she got strange feeling.
She looked around her place and one lady asked her what’s wrong.
That lady found out that she was on wrong platform and escorted her to the right one.
According to her, people may teach but never escort to the place.
Many guests stayed in TOUKA had experienced some kind of local hospitality here in Kanmon and Kitakyushu. It seems that “OMOTENASHI plus Alpha of this area” is fascinating tourists very much.
A guest staying right now said that LOCAL (not city) people’s heart warming kindness have made him travel here four times. He also said that North kyushu area is the best place among several Asian countries he have ever visited.
TOUKA is getting wonderful comments from guests and good scores from reservation site and those reputation is the result of high level OMEOTENASHI of whole this area, we think.
Before focusing “Minpaku-special area” or “Inbound”, local government and we have to think about the importance of OMOTENASHI, the real sales point. Only exchange money and duty-free items or only giving the room key are forgetting warm HEART of face-to-face and hand-to-hand communication.
We really hope that our guests walk down from TOUKA with their huge suitcase filled up with “warm heart of Kanmon”

関門 The おもてなし特区！
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
関門の素敵な話を少しだけ、、、
彼女はお隣の国からのゲストさん。
20歳で最初の海外ひとり旅とのこと。
4泊5日間、当宿を利用されて北九州・関門エリアを満喫されました。
「満喫」、、、
さて、いったい何を満喫されたのでしょう？
、、、関門に住む人の優しさに心底感動したそうです。
ある暑い夏の日、彼女は下関に観光・ショッピングに出かけました。
駅近くの100均でお土産などを買ったあと、お店の前で涼んでいました。
すると店員が一人、なにか叫びながら表に飛び出して行ったそうです。
そのまま気には留めずに彼女はバスに乗り、その日の目的地、長府に到着。
観光しながらお土産屋さんで家族へのお土産を買おうととしたところ、
気付きました。財布がないことに、、、
事情を店員に話していると、それを聞いていた地元の人（店員の一人？）がなんと車を出して100均のある町まで連れて行ってくれたそうです。早いほうがよいだろうとの配慮だったようですが、そのために車に乗せてもらったことにゲストは感動したそうです。
その甲斐あってか、幸運にも、財布は100均にあったそうで、無事彼女の手に戻りました。
宿に戻り、そのエピソードを自分に話しながら、彼女はあることに気付きました。
そして私に質問します。
“Yassan, what you call wallet in Japanese?”
そう、彼女は思い出したのです。100均の店員が走りながら叫んでいた言葉を、
「さいふ！ さいふ！ さいふ〜！」と
話はそれだけ終わりません。本州側だけでなく、九州側でも彼女は感動しています。
小倉駅で宿に戻る電車を待っていたところ、どうもなんか違う雰囲気になったそうです。
そんな彼女の様子に気づいた女性がひとりいて、優しく話しかけてくれたそうです。
その女性は彼女が違うホームにいることを察知し、正しいホームに連れて行ってくれたそうです。
ゲストのお国では口で教えることはあっても、連れて行ってくれることはないそうです。
「灯火」に滞在されるゲストは、なにかしらそんなあたたかい感動をこの地で味わっているようです。そしてどうもこの土地の 日本水準＋アルファな「おもてなし」が観光客の心を掴んで離さないようです。
今いらしゃるゲストさんも、九州の人の優しさに魅せられて、なんと訪問4度目。それも九州ばかりだそうです。これまで旅したアジアのどの国よりも日本が、それも北部九州が好きなんだそうです。
「灯火」はゲストの皆さんから好コメント、予約サイトから高評価をもらっているのですが、そうしたこともこの地域あげての「おもてなし」の賜物だと思います。
「民泊特区」だとか「インバウンド」とかいう前に、我々や行政は真のセールスポイントである「おもてなし」をもっと真剣に考えるべきだと感じます。免税品の代金の受け渡しだけ、部屋の鍵を渡すだけの「ふれあい」のない歓迎では心が置き去りです。
「灯火」の前の坂を降りていくゲストの大きなスーツケースには「関門のまごころ」をいっぱい詰め込んで、それぞれの国へ帰ってもらいたいと願ってやみません。
