An indescribable disappointment
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
Another recent trend is that the number of guests traveling to Japan for the first time is increasing.
The number of people traveling alone to Japan for the first time and staying at these kind of guesthouses is rapidly increasing.
The biggest reason is probably the weaker yen!
Even compared to the currency of the neighbor country, the yen has become about 20% cheaper since our guesthouse opened.
What’s more, in Japan, where deflation has continued for a long time, prices are kept low as mush as wages and that have made Japan a shopping paradise for foreign tourists.
Japan has now fallen to 4th place in the world in terms of GDP, and is predicted to be demoted to 5th place in two years and declining Japan is in a buying spree. (We wish the shopping spree was limited to goods and materials.)
I don’t have many of my guests like that, but when I talk to people in the food and beverage industry, I hear that they often feel that “Japan is cheap” impression is reflected in their guests’ arrogant attitude, which makes them feel uncomfortable.
To be honest, there are very few number of people here like that.
We are concerned that the time has come for the Japanese people to see various negative effects of the “pointless sale of the country”.
We would like to sound a warning to both the Japanese government and local governments that it is no time to get excited about the rapid increase in inbound overseas tourist demand.
We firmly believe that interactions between travelers and those who host them are based on mutual respect.
Due to the extremely weak yen, it is likely that there will be a mismatch between guests and us.
(I feel that this phenomenon is somewhat similar to when travel support from the government was applied during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, when a different type of guests than before stayed at this guesthouse.)
We do hope that the reckless depreciation of the yen and monetary policy, which has no way out, will come to an end soon.

いいようのない無念さ
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
最近の傾向といえば、もうひとつ増えているのが、「初めて日本を旅行するゲストさん」。
初めての日本旅行がひとり旅で、こうしたゲストハウスにいらっしゃる方が急増しています。
最大のきっかけはやはり円安でしょう！
お隣の国の通貨と比較しても、当宿の開業当初から２０％ほど円が安くなっています。
おまけにデフレが長く続いた日本では、賃金同様に物価も抑えられているので、外国人にしてみれば買い物天国です。
今やGDPで世界第４位に落ちてしまい、二年後には５位に降格間違いなしとお墨付きまでもらっている斜陽日本の買い叩き状態です。（買い叩きが物品で済めばいいのですが、、、）
うちのゲストさんにそういう方はほとんどいらっしゃらないのですが、飲食関係の知り合いと話をすると、「日本は安い」という感覚が、態度の横柄さに表れていて、鼻持ちならない気分にさせられることが多々あるとのこと。
正直なところ、たまにそんな方もいなくはないですね。
日本人にとっての「無意味な国家の安売り」には、そろそろ色々と弊害が出てくる頃ではないかと危惧します。
インバウンドの海外韓国客需要が急増しているとぬか喜びしている場合ではないと日本政府・地方自治体の両方に警鐘を鳴らしておきたいと思います。
旅行者とそれをもてなす側とは、やはりお互いが尊敬・尊重し合ってこその交流だと断言します。
極度の円安のせいで、ゲストさんとのミスマッチも起きそうな状況です。
（この現象、どこかコロナの感染拡大時の行政からの旅行支援の全盛期に、それまでとは違う客層が利用された時に似ている気がします。）
出口のない無策な円安・金融政策はそろそろ終わりにしてほしいですね。
