Two screams from the guest room

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

“Kitakyushu is the best town I’ve ever visited!”

Once again, we received complimentary comments from our guests.

This episode started 3 hours before from that comment.

After checking in, we advised the guests to relax here, the guests went into the room and we heard they first screamed from the room!

Soon after, a guest came to the reception desk at the same time as the sound of running down the stairs.

So, as soon as they arrived, they asked us.

“Did I leave my wallet here when I checked in?”

When I replied that I only saw their passport at check-in, she said that was correct and went back to the room.

A few minutes later, another scream came from the room!

This time, the two of them ran down the stairs and showed me a video on their smartphones, saying, “It’s the station! It’s the station!”

The video showed a guest getting off the train, pulling a carry cart along the platform, and heading towards the exit with a smile on her face.

The next moment, I saw something fall from the bag that was placed on the carry cart.

“This is it. This is my wallet!”

Thinking it might still be there, we hurried to the nearest station to take a look.

Unfortunately, the wallet was nowhere to be found, so I looked back on the 8-year history of this guesthouse and encouraged the disappointed guests, “Don’t give up just yet”. The next place I brought them is

Yes, KOBAN, a Japanese style police box!

As soon as a police officer there saw the guest, he asked, “Did you drop something at the station?” and “What did you drop?”

When the guest answered, “It’s a brown leather wallet,” the police officer brought something from the back room.

Once again, the screams of the two guests echoed through the police box immediately after they found it.

For foreign tourists, the Land of the Rising Sun is a place where unbelievable miracles occur.

A guest who is planning to start her study abroad life in this country for the next one year with her residence certificate found in her wallet. I hope she will have a valuable study abroad experience that is different from loosing important items.

P.S. When I look back on why I went so far to cooperate with the guests, I think it may have been because of the suspicion of theft by staff members at a guesthouse in this area that I heard about from another guest stayed this spring. It crossed my mind.

客室から聞こえる二度の悲鳴

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

「これまで訪れた町で北九州が一番ですっ！」

またまたゲストさんからいただきました。

そのコメントから遡ること３時間。

チェックインを済ませ、どうぞお寛ぎくださいと入ったお部屋から最初の悲鳴！

ほどなく階段を駆け降りる音と同時に受付にゲストさんがやってきました。

で、やってくるなり

「チェックインの時に、ここに財布を置き忘れていませんか？」とお尋ね。

チェックインの際にはパスポートしかお持ちにならなかった旨を返答すると、そうですよねとお部屋に戻って行かれました。

その数分後、またもやお部屋から悲鳴！

今度はお二人で階段を駆け降りてきて、「駅です！駅です！」とスマホの動画を見せてくれました。

そこには電車を降りてプラットホームをキャリーカートを引っ張りながら笑顔で出口に向かうゲストさん。

次の瞬間、キャリーカートの上に置いてあるバックから、何かがポロッと落ちるのが映っていました。

「これです。これです、私の財布！」

まだそこにあるかもと、急いで最寄りの駅まで一緒に見に行きました。

けれども残念ながらそこには財布の姿はなく、ガッカリするゲストさんに、８年余りの宿屋の歴史を振り返って「まだ諦めてはいけない」と励ましてゲストを連れて訪れたのは、、、

そう交番！

そこにいたお巡りさんはゲストさんの姿を見るなり、「もしかして駅で何か落としましたか？何を落としましたか？」と質問が飛んできました。

ゲストさんが「財布です」と答えると、次の質問は「どんな財布ですか？」。

ゲストさんが「茶色の革製の財布です」と答えると、お巡りさんが奥の部屋から何やら持ってきてくれたのを見て、

またまたゲスト二人の悲鳴が交番に響き渡りました。

外国人旅行客にとっては、信じられない奇跡が起こるこの日出ずる国。財布の中に確認できた在留証明書でこれから１年間留学生活を始める計画のゲストさん。落とし物とは違う貴重な留学体験をしてほしいですね。

P.S. 自分自身もなんでここまでゲストさんに協力したのかその理由を振り返ってみると、今春別のゲストから聞いた付近の宿で起きたスタッフによる盗難疑惑の体験のせいかも。そんな思いが頭の中をよぎりました。
