A lot of young Japanese know that Nov.11th is the day of POCKY, most popular Japanese chocolate cookie bar.
But are there anybody who knows what is the day, Nov. 1st for?
Nov. 1st is …
enacted as “Anniversary of Lighthouse” by Japan Coast Guard.
Is it because the shape of three “1” looks like lighthouses?
Answer is NO. The reason is not like Day of Pocky.
It is because the first western style lighthouse was constructed on Nov.1 in the first year of Meiji Era.
This anniversary in not so popular even in Japan. But Japan Coast Guard related organization and lighthouses are celebrating this day and some ocean related facility in this town also celebrate, as a port town of North Kyushu.
The lighthouse next to TOUKA is standing under clear sky with autumn clouds.
Everyday, day or night, our lighthouse is showing the right direction for short period of time to all ships coming into Kanmon Strait from west, Genkai-nada Sea.
All ships are targeting this lighthouse straight, until they get the right timing to port the helm for the next direction. And once they set the new direction, they accelerate and go straight forward.

11月11日が何の日かはご存知！ では11月1日は？
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
最近ではほとんどの日本の若者が11月11日を「ポッキーの日」だと認識しているようです。
では、明日11月1日が何の日か知っている人はどのくらいいるでしょうか？
11月1日は、、、
「灯台の日」
日本の記念日として海上保安庁によって制定されています。
3本の灯台が立っているように見えるから？
、、、いえいえ、それほど俗的でないところがポッキーとは違います。
明治元年に最初の洋式灯台が起工されたのが11月1日だから、だそうです。
全国的にはマイナーな記念日ですが、港町でもある我が街ではいくつかの施設でこの日を記念する行事が開催されています。
さて、スッキリ晴れ渡った秋空の下、
今日も当宿「灯火」の灯台は海峡を照らしています。
玄界灘から海峡に進入してくる全ての船はこの灯台を目印に進んできます。
その時間ほんのわずかですが、次に進むべき進路が決まるまで、まっすぐに、、
そして、いったん次の進路が定まると、
舳先を新たな進路に向けて、速力を上げて進んで行きます。
