From the sea and the mountains
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
Yesterday was March 11th.
I avoided using social media or the internet for the entire day,
and I recalled the towns in the north, the people I met there, and the stories I heard from them, and my resolve to protect ourselves from disasters grew stronger.
At 14:46, we decided to join our hands in prayer as we faced this strait, which is connected to TOHOKU by the sea.
This is the 14th year of the memorial, and the thing that shocked me the most this time was the forest fires!
Although the fire has been put out, I imagine that the loss of things must have had a huge impact on those affected.
Water (TSUNAMI) from the sea,
and Fire (Forest Fire) from the mountains.
I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be to be hit by two major disasters within less than a generation (30 years).
When I think about disaster prevention in relation to these disasters, I have felt safe in the event of a Tsunami because we are on high ground that was above the estimated water level of the Nankai Trough Tsunami.
However, being hit by a wildfire is something we never expect.
This guesthouse is built on a hillside and is surrounded by greenery, and we have shared the healing effects that come from this atmosphere with our guests.
But when I think about what would happen if these trees were to burst into flames, I regret that we didn’t take any measures to protect ourselves.
Regarding fire prevention within the facility, we keep having the conduct regular inspections conducted by city , so we feel quite secure, but there is no way to prevent a fire from spreading from outside.
Speaking of disaster coming from outside, there was one concern that has bothered me, and I felt that I needed to consider what to do about it.

P.S. When I recalled the stories of the victims yesterday, I remembered hearing that the most casualties were not at the time of the earthquake, but from the time of the tsunami’s attack to the day after. So I have decided that the time of mourning will be two days, March 11th and 12th from now on.

海からも、山からも、、、
昨日は３月１１日。
終日、SNSやインターネットに触れることは極力避けて、
北の町々やそこで出会った人、聞いた話などを思い起こして、防災に対する思いを高めました。
14時46分には海でつながっているこの海峡に向かって手を合わせることにしました。
14年目の追悼にして、今回一番ショックだったのは、山火事！
鎮火できたとはいえ、焼失したものは被災された方々にとってとても大きいのではないかと思いを巡らせます。
海からは水（津波）、
山からは火（山火事）、
一世代（３０年）も経たぬうちに二度の大災害に見舞われるなんて、その無念さたるや自分には想像できません。
我が身に振り返り防災を考えると、津波については南海トラフの津波想定水位を余裕で越える高台にいることから安心していましたが、
山火事に見舞われることはまったくの想定外です。
丘の中腹に建つ当宿は、緑に覆われており、そこから得られる癒しの効果をゲストさんたちにシェアしてきたのですが、、、
もしこの木々が燃え上がったら、と思うと対策できてないなぁと反省です。
施設内の防火については、消防署にも定期的に検査していただいているので、かなり安心できているのですが、外から飛び火してくると避けようがありません。
そう、外からといえば、ひとつ気になる懸念事項もあって、対策を検討しなくてはと感じました。
それでは、対策しすぎるぐらいに防災準備を徹底して素敵な一日を！
P.S. 昨日被災者の話を思い起こした際に、一番犠牲者が出たのは地震発生時刻ではなく、津波襲来後から翌日にかけてだったという話を聞いたことを思い出しました。来年からは追悼の時間を3月11日と12日の二日間にしようと決めました。
