Self tour around

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

My journey around churches in Western Kyushu, Nagasaki.

Of the places introduced so far, Oura Cathedral is the only one that is one of the 12 constituent assets of the World Heritage Site.

Now, this is where the real action begins.

Due to time constraints, I could not visit any remote islands this time, so I will focus on the mainland or islands connected to the mainland.

Utilizing the book as a reference, I headed to this village and the church located in the center of it.

I made a reservation for my visit there according to the instructions in the book, and when I arrived, I saw a car parked in front of the church.

There was an elderly man there who seemed to be a local, and when I told him I had a reservation, he said I was welcome to go inside the church, but please refrain from taking photos.

There was only one other group of visitors, so I could take my time looking around the inside of the church and its surroundings, and had a really good time.

巡る旅

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

西九州、長崎、教会を巡る旅。

ここまで紹介した中で、世界文化遺産の１２の構成資産に該当するのは大浦天主堂だけ。

さぁ、ここからが本番です。

今回は時間的制約から離島には行けないので、本土か陸続きの島に焦点を絞ります。

そしてかの本を参考にして向かったのはこちらの集落。そしてその中央に位置する教会です。

本に紹介されていた手順に従い見学予約をして訪れると、教会前に一台の車。

そこに地元の方だと思われる年配の男性がいて、予約の旨を伝えると、教会の中へご自由にどうぞ、撮影だけはご遠慮くださいということでした。

他に見学者はひと組しかおらず、ゆっくり時間をかけて教会内部、その周辺をぐるっと見てまわり、なかなか良い時間を過ごすことができました。

The second church I visited in Nagasaki this time was…

treated as an extra, according to the book, but the content it covered was just as good as the other churches, so even before I visited, I was very intrigued by this brick church.

Upon arriving, I applied for a tour at the reception and was asked a few questions. Upon closer look, it seemed like they were compiling information about visitors in a table.

I thought she was from the church, but it turned out she was a staff member of the local tourist association.

Isn’t this something that our town should follow?

Although the church is located off the national highway, the road to the church is well maintained, and it is hard to believe that it is an extra church.

After checking in, the same staff guided me inside the church and gave me a brief explanation.

The view from the front of the church was also magnificent, making it a very impressive and memorable church.

見習うべきこと

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

今回、長崎にて２番目に訪れた教会は、、、、

かの本によれば、番外の扱いでしたが、取り上げられている内容は他の教会に勝るとも劣らないものだったので、訪ねる前から非常に興味がわく煉瓦造りの教会でした。

到着するや、受付で見学の申し込みをすると、いくつか質問をされます。よく見ると訪問客の情報を表にまとめているようでした。

教会の方かと思ったら、実は「協会」、地域の観光協会のスタッフの方でした。

これはおいらの街でも見習うべきではないでしょうか。

国道などから外れた場所にあるのに、教会までの道も整備されていて、番外の教会とは思えない整備のしようでした。

受付を済ませた後、同じスタッフの方に教会内への案内と、簡単な説明をしていただきました。

教会正面から望む立ち姿も素晴らしく、なかなか印象・思い出に残る教会でした。

丘の上の教会 / Church on the Hill

Church on the Hill

The first place I visited on my trip to Nagasaki was…

The Xavier Memorial Church, perched atop a hill.

In fact, churches that originated with Xavier have had a strange connection to me since my childhood.

When I was in the fifth grade of elementary school, I was a member of school history club and was taken by sixth graders to visit the Xavier Memorial Cathedral in Yamaguchi City, a group of five children.

The church at that time seems to have been destroyed in a fire, but I remember it being a very beautiful church.

Later, I happened to visit St. Francis Xavier Church in Malacca and Macau, and I even feel a sense of familiarity with Xavier.

Hirado, Nagasaki is said to be the place where he began his missionary work in Japan.

The Xavier Memorial Church in Hirado that I visited this time was also a beautiful church.

It was built in the Showa era and is not a World Heritage Site, but it is a very beautiful church.

When I visited, a funeral was being held there, and the church is still functioning properly.

丘の上の教会

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

今回の長崎旅行で最初に訪れたのは、、、

丘の上に立つザビエル記念教会。

実はザビエル由来の教会というと、不思議と昔からご縁があるんです。

小学校５年生の時に所属していた歴史クラブで６年生に連れられて、子供だけの５人で訪れたのが山口市にある／あったザビエル記念聖堂。

当時の教会は火災で焼失したようですが、とてもきれいな教会だったことは覚えています。

その後、偶然にマラッカやマカオの聖フランシスコ・ザビエル教会を訪れることになったりしたため、ザビエルには親しみすら感じています。

そんな彼が日本での布教を始めたとされる平戸。

今回訪れたその平戸のザビエル記念教会も美しい教会でした。

昭和になってから建てられたということで世界遺産の教会ではないようですが、とても素敵な教会です。

訪問した時は信徒の方の葬儀が執り行われていて、今もちゃんと機能している教会でした。
