What we need now may not be beans.

Yesterday was the day of SETSUBUN. How many beans* did you take?
(*Japanese people believe that we can get good luck by eating same number of beans on SETSUBUN day.)
In my case, the number is too much, so I stopped eating at reasonable timing.
Let me talk a little about the 節(setsu).
If we search the English translation of SETSUBUN in internet, we often found ”division of seasons” as the meaning. It is because they assume SETSU as Season.
I have no objection to it. But I personally understand SETSU as “occasion”. My latest basic SETSU was about 7 years ago and my next SETSU will come about 8 years later. This idea came from the lesson of my Indian yoga teacher. As I felt comfortable with her explanation that time, so I adopted the idea into my life planning.
However the life is not so simple. For example, I have experienced two unexpected SETSU in this decade. One happened in 2011 and the other is happening just now. So I keep struggling positively to overcome those difficulties.
This might be strange theory for ordinary people, but how about the idea to divide your life by SETSU to make it more fruitful.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
昨日は節分、、、いくつ豆を食べましたか？
自分の場合はそんなに食べたら食事が要らなくなってしまうので、適当なところで止めておきました。
さて、その節分の「節」について、、、
「節分」の英訳をググってみると、“division of seasons”など、「節」を「季節」と解釈しての説明がほとんどです。
それが間違いだと反論しませんが、自分は個人的に「節」を“occasion”と理解しています。（その意味はどうぞグーグル先生にお訪ね下さい）
例えば、自分にとっての基本の「節」は、直前のものが約７年前で、直近のものが約８年後です。これはかつて師事していた今は亡きインド人のヨーガの先生に教わったもので、その解説が妙に腑に落ちたので、自らの人生設計に取り入れました。
ただこの人生、想定通りに進むはずはなく、これまでにも想定していなかった「節」が2011年と、そして今まさに起こっていて、それに前向きに取り組んでいるところです。
ちょっと変わっているかもしれませんが、人生を「節」で分けてみるというアイデア いかがでしょう？

尚、上記は決して誰もが人生に節目を持つべきという主張ではありません。従来通りに人生を全うしても誰も文句は言わないでしょう。
