Is it cheap or expensive?
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
Guests came here using a railway excursion pass only for foreign tourists issued by JR and said,
“JR is super cheap!”
I wrote an article about such an episode before.
However, guests who travel to Japan for one or two nights (about 70% of all guests) frequently complain,
“JR tickets are extremely expensive!”
The latter are travelers who travel within the country on the same tickets as ordinary Japanese citizens.
In other words, Japanese citizens are forced to buy tickets that are “abnormally expensive” by international standards.
Despite this, JR’s management seems to be poor.
Just a little while ago, there was news reporting that JR are considering abolishing railway transport on deficit routes.

By keeping the passes for foreigners cheap (even after the price hike) and raising the fares that Japanese people usually use, the number of people using the railway will continue to decline.
Therefore, if the route is abolished, the depopulation of the area will further accelerate, and the situation will become increasingly inconvenient, which will not be able to stop the situation, and eventually passes for foreigners will become unattractive.
This is a negative spiral in our society caused by JR’s poor management.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
ゲストさんがJRが発行する外国人観光客向けの鉄道周遊パスを利用してここへいらして、言った言葉が、、、
JRは超安いっ！
以前、そんなエピソードを記事にしました。
ところが、一泊ないし二泊で日本を旅行されるゲストさん（ゲスト全体の７割ほどで大多数）がこぞって、ひんぱんに苦情をこぼすのが、、、
JRの切符は異常に高いっ！
後者はつまり、一般の日本国民と同じ切符で国内移動された旅行者たちであって、言い換えると日本国民は国際基準で「異常に高い」切符を買わされているということになります。
にもかかわらず、どうもJRさんは経営が上手くない。
ついさっきも赤字路線の鉄道運送廃止検討のニュースが報じられていました。

外国人向けのパスを安い（値上げ後も）ままに、日本人が通常利用する運賃をどんどん上げていくので、鉄道利用者はどんどん減少していきます。
そこで路線廃止すると、地域の過疎化がさらに進み、どんどん不便になることに歯止めが効かず、最終的に外国人向けのパスも魅力がなくなる。
JRの経営下手に起因する負のスパイラルです。
