Sad story of my home town and alma mater

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

The weekly magazine, which I prefer to read, have an article this week, titled “Middle schools and high school which is effective for your life”.

It seems many readers are interested in education for their children.

A high school in Yamanashi appears on the article.
Yamanashi is the place where I worked first in my business man life.
One of my friend is still working there and she is an OG of the school.

So we talked about the article, but I feel sad after talking with her.

Because the building or my alma mater still be there (as it was), but school business was already closed, due to the decrease in the number of children.

It may be because of us.
As a characteristic of Fukuoka pref., students have moved to Tokyo and other big cities. Specially students from Kitakyushu city don’t come back even after graduation from college/university.
It is true because I am the one of them.
More OB/OG will come together to the party in Tokyo than that in Kitakyushu.

Other magazine said that there are not a few high schools in Fukuoka have strong organization of alumni associations. My alma mater has a pretty strong one. However tradition of the school never be more important than continuance of the school.

I feel so strange when I see the school of my third choice still continue now. I wonder which is more effective to student’s future.

P.S. In Japan, more schools will close with same reason of my alma mater. Key word is sustainable for not only the business enterprises, but also schools and guesthouse.

そこに有るのに、本当は無い、哀しい話

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

愛読している週刊誌。今週の特集は「人生に効く中学高校」。
偏差値や進学先の大学で評価しないとても良い企画です。

こうしてみると（子供の）進学についての読者層の関心は未だ高いようです。

その中に、サラリーマン時代の初任地にある高校が載っています。
その高校の卒業生で、今まだその事業所で働いている元同僚とその校風について盛り上がりました。

そんなやり取りをした後、自分自身の出身校を想い、哀しくなりました。

実は自分が出た高校は今はもうありません。
正確に言うと、敷地や校舎などは昔のまま残っています（まさにそのまんま）。けれども学校としては、他校と再編合併、中高一貫校化し、別の場所に移転となりました。

つまり「廃校」になったのと変わりありません。

なくなってしまった母校が蘇ることは不可能です。
なぜなら廃校の一番の理由は「少子化」だから、、、

さらにその少子化最大の原因は「自分たち」にあるようです。
福岡という県民性なのか、高校卒業後上京してしまう生徒が伝統的に多いのです。
さらに北九州の場合は大学卒業後に戻ってこないケースも少なくありません。
その一人である自分が言っているのだから間違いありません。
高校の同級生の同窓会も東京開催の方が人数が集まるほどです。

同窓会といえば、福岡全体で高校の歴代OB/OG会の組織力が強いと何かの本で読みました。
母校もその例に洩れずです。ただ、学校の「伝統」が現役生の有無に伝統が勝るはずはありません。伝統は引き継げてこそ「伝統」！ 当時、母校志望のすべり止めだった私立校が今まだ存続しているのを見ると、振り返ってどっちが「人生に効く高校」だったのか首を傾げます。

それでは、どうぞ未来へと伝統を受け継ぐ素敵な一日を！

P.S. おそらく今後も全国で学校の統廃合は増えるでしょう。キーワードはサスティナブル。学校も仕事も、ゲストハウスもねっ。
