The reason she abandoned to be in Japan
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
After we mentioned about the trouble in Tokyo Olympic organizing committee, one of our guests who have kept contacting us taught us about intolerance in Japan to diversity.
She used to be an exchange student but left Japan several month after staying this guesthouse. Now she is studying in U.K.
According to her, what she experienced in Japan was the feeling that it is extremely hard for her as female asian to works in Japan successfully. And that made her feel stuffy. As the result, she convinced no her future in Japan and decided to left this country.
Most of Japanese people rarely face/understand such negative aspect of Japanese society and there is no statistical report about foreigners who abandoned Japan. So we have never felt guilty for them, however what we are loosing is incalculable. This can be one of the cause why Japan will loose is global position in several years.
Like the comment of female discrimination came not only from the chairman’s special character, this is not systematic problem of the schools which have invite a lot of exchange student from foreign countries. This is the problem of our society. We may have higher “invisible wall only by Japanese” than the wall Donald Trump want to build along the border.
We kept saying WELCOME, but we may be creating many Japanophobes in Japan by ourselves.
Now is the time for us to upgrade ourselves to the level with high equality and dignity from the lower lever where we call foreigners YOU and laugh at them who are in this country.

この国に見切りをつけた話
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
東京オリンピック組織委員会の問題から、社会として日本が多様性に非寛容だという話題について、利用後１年以上経った今でも時折連絡をくれるゲストさんが教えてくれました。
彼女は当宿に滞在した後しばらくして、日本での留学を切り上げて、今はイギリスで勉強中。
彼女が日本で体感したのは「アジア系の女性として日本で活躍するのは難しい」という現実で、息苦しさを感じたようです。そして日本では自身の将来性はないと確信し、この国を離れる決心をしたと打ち明けてくれました。
こうした日本にある「ネガティブな側面」に日本人はなかなか気付きません。この国を見切った外国人の数も統計に現れることはないので、今々私たちに痛みはありませんが、失うものは計り知れません。きっと数年後に日本が世界に取り残される原因の一つになるでしょう。
女性軽視の発言が組織委員会会長だけのせいでないのと同様、これは外国人留学生を誘致する大学の受け入れ姿勢の問題ではありません。社会全体の問題です。トランプが築こうとした壁よりも高い「日本人にだけ目に見えない壁」がすぐそばに存在することを我々は気付かなくてはいけません。
たくさん来てくださいと世界中の若者を呼んでおきながら、結局私たちが「日本嫌い」な外国人を大勢生産しているのかもしれません。
そろそろ日本に旅行に来た外国人を「YOU」と呼び指差し笑いする低次元から、公平性と品格のある共存共栄にレベルアップするタイミングではないかと痛感します。
それでは、口先だけの多様性ではない真の多様性と公平性が保証される素敵な一日を！
