The change we need to share at first

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Before we begin our report on the other side of the strait, which is where we’ll be focusing on during the first half of this year,

It is about future changes to the main artery connecting Honshu and Kyushu.

According to West Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd., they are preparing to revise the tolls for the Kanmon Tunnel.

What is concerning is that the revised content is said to be a significant price increase, unlike recent versions in the past.

The cheapest transportation fare to cross to Honshu on the opposite shore is the tunnel fee.

So we would like to keep an eye on how the current proposals will be realized in the future.

当宿が今年前半焦点を当てている対岸についてのレポートを始める前に、

まず最初に認識しておかなければならない悪いニュースを共有します。

それは、本州と九州とを結ぶ大動脈についてのこれからの変化。

西日本高速道路によると、同社では関門トンネルの料金改定を準備中らしいです。

気になるのが、その改訂内容がこれまでと違い大幅な値上げになるといわれていること。

対岸の本州に渡るための一番安い交通料金がこのトンネル利用料。

今後、現在の案がどう現実化していくのかウォッチしていきたいと思います。

Bridge illuminations!

It may be more of light-up than illumination.

I took a quick look around on Sunday, the last day of the New Year holidays.

The official announcement said that the lights would be “warm white” on Sunday, but…

to my eyes, it looked pink or “cherry blossom color.”

Compared to the bridge illuminations in neighboring countries, the light is quieter and more subdued,

but I think it’s just right for our port town.

色めく

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

年越しに花火が上がらなかったここ関門ですが、、、

前年の年越しから良い意味で変わった趣向があります。

それは、、、

橋のイルミネーション！

イルミネーションというよりはライトアップなのかもしれません。

正月休み最後となる日曜日にちょっと見学してみました。

公式のアナウンスメントでは日曜は「電球色」ということですが、、、

自分の目にはピンクもしくは「さくら色」に見えました。

お隣の国の橋のイルミネーションと比べると静かで落ち着いた光ですが、

我が港町にはちょうどいい感じだと思います。

由々しき問題！ / Serious problem!

Serious problem!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

As someone who runs an accommodation business here in the Kanmon Strait, this New Year’s Eve posed a bit of a problem.

It is because, from New Year’s Eve 2025-2026, countdown fireworks will no longer be held in our port town.

In fact, it seems that our guest didn’t know about this until the last minute, and when we informed him, the reservation was canceled the next moment.

The organizers apparently held an event featuring local comedians instead of fireworks, but it seems unlikely that it would be well received by inbound tourists, and although there was no damage to this guesthouse, it was a very sad New Year’s Eve.

I feel like an important commercial item for the town has been lost; until now, we have been encouraging re-visit/repeat stay by boasting, “We have fireworks to count down the New Year’s Eve.”

The organizers mentioned “lack of volunteer staff” as the reason for canceling the fireworks, but these days, people don’t even show up even when you pay them, so it’s impossible that volunteers would show up on New Year’s Eve.

There are many other events in this town that rely on volunteers, so there are concerns that other events may also be canceled or suspended in the future.

The future looks bleak unless we put into practice effective sustainable measures rather than just shouting about SDGs and sustainability.

由々しき問題！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

ここ関門海峡にあって、宿泊業を営むものとして、今回の年越しはちょっとした問題でした。

というのも、2025−2026の年越しから、我が港町でのカウントダウン花火が開催されなくなったからです。

実は当宿のゲストさんは直前までそれを知らなかったようで、その旨教えてあげると、次の瞬間に宿泊予約はキャンセルとなりました。

主催者は代わりにお笑い芸人を配してのイベントを開催したようですが、それがインバウンドの観光客にウケるとは思えず、当宿としてのダメージはなかったものの、今回はとても寂しい年越しとなりました。

これまで「年越しにはカウントダウンで花火が上がるんですよ」と自慢することで、宿のリピート利用を促すための、町の重要な商材がなくなった感覚です。

花火中止の理由として、主催者は「ボランティアスタッフの人員不足」などをあげていますが、お金を払っても人が集まらない今日日、大晦日にボランティアなんて集まる方が不思議でしょう。

この町では、他にもボランティア頼みのイベントが少なくないので、これから他のイベントについても中止・停止となるものが出てくるのではないかと危惧されます。

SDGsだ、持続可能だ、と口先だけで叫ぶのではなく、実のあるサスティナブル対策を実践していかないと未来は暗いですよね。
