Can see all the way to the other side

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

This is an episode of last weekend.

The guest came all the way here with one purpose.

And on the way here, the guest achieved the purpose and checked in.

The purpose was…

to see a Japanese fireworks festival!

One of the several fireworks festivals held here in Kitakyushu every summer was held in October this year.

The fireworks will be set off over Dokai Bay in Wakamatsu Ward.

In the guest’s country, fireworks last at most 10 minutes, so she wanted to see a Japanese fireworks display at least once.

We thought we wouldn’t be able to see it from here, since it’s located on the other side of Hikoshima Island across the strait, but…

When it was time for the fireworks display, we could hear the faint sound of fireworks popping in the distance.

I looked around to see if we could see any fireworks from here…

There’s a movement to make our town a “Sushi Town,” but am I the only one who thinks it would be more appealing to call it a “Fireworks Town”?

向こう側まで見える！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

先週末の話です。

そのゲストさんは目的を持ってここまでやってこられました。

そしてここに来るまでの間に目的を果たし、チェックインされました。

その目的とは、、、

日本の花火大会！

毎夏、ここ北九州で開催されているいくつかの花火大会のうちひとつが、今年は１０月開催となりました。

場所は若松区、洞海湾であがる花火です。

ゲストさんの国では花火といえば長くて１０分で終わるので、一度日本の花火大会を見ておきたかったということです。

ここからだと海峡の向かいの彦島の、さらに向こう側に位置するため見えないだろうと思っていたら、、、

花火大会開催の時間になると、遠くからかすかに花火の弾ける音が聞こえてきました。

どこからか花火が見えないかと探すと、、、

おいらの街を「すしのまち」にしようという動きがありますが、むしろ「花火のまち」とするほうがより魅力的ではないかと思うのは自分だけでしょうか？

神風体験！ / KAMIKAZE experience!

The Kanmon Straits seen below this guesthouse.

If you’re crossing by car, you can choose to take the tunnel with the entrance at blowfish mouth or the bridge…

There are also several ways to cross it, if you don’t have a car.

The one we recommend the most is…

the ferry!

A regular ferry service crosses the strait.

According to a Coast Guard officer who stayed at this guesthouse, as many as 600 large ships pass through this Kanmon Strait every day.

Crossing the strait can be quite exciting at times.

A small boat weaves its way between large ships.

It always pass directly behind large ships, and until the moment it pass each, it feels as if we are about to ram into the ship. Like KAMIMAZE!

The ferry also has a female pilot, and watching her pilot the boat is very reassuring.

We recommend using the ferry even to our guests who arrive by car, and we don’t know how many guests have used it since we opened.

Guests who are lucky enough to encounter an exciting crossing often come back here excitedly to tell us about it.

神風体験！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

当宿の眼下に臨む関門海峡。

車で渡る時はフグの口が入り口のトンネルか、橋下の選択ができますが、、、

車がない時の渡り方もいくつかあります。

そのうちもっともオススメなのが、、、

連絡船！

海峡を横切る定期渡船です。

当宿を利用いただいた海上保安官によると日に６００隻にものぼる大型船が行き来するのかこの関門海峡です。

そこを横断するのは時にはかなりエキサイティング。

大型船の合間を縫うように進みます。

常に大型船の直後を横切るのですが、すれ違う寸前まではまるで大型船に体当たりしに行っているかのような錯覚に陥ります。まるで神風！

渡船には女性パイロットもいて、その操船している姿は見ていてとても頼もしく感じます。

車でいらしたゲストさんたちにも当宿では渡船利用をお勧めしており、開業以来どれほどのゲストさんたちが利用したかわかりません。

運良くエキサイティングなすれ違いに遭遇したゲストさんは、戻ってきてその様子を興奮したように話してくれます。
