It’s been a hot, hot midsummer here, and as I said before, it’s really become an event every weekend in this town.

When I went out to town to avoid the hot midday heat to prepare for our hospitality…

I noticed that there were a lot of children wearing YUKATA (Japanese summer KIMONO).

When we finished my errands and headed to our guesthouse,…

I noticed that there were a lot of people on the sidewalk on the north side of the street.

When we look at the direction everyone is looking…

we saw big fireworks in the sky.

I knew that there was a big festival on the weekend, and I thought the fireworks would be on Saturday, so I planned to watch them from our guesthouse, but it was actually on Friday, the eve of the festival, that I first realized when I saw the real fireworks.

I parked my car and was able to enjoy the summer atmosphere even though it was only for a few minutes.

毎週末・毎週末！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

暑い暑い盛夏となり、前にも話した通り、この町では本当に毎週末のイベントになってきました。

暑い昼間を避けて、おもてなしの準備のための用事で町に出かけると、、、

やけに浴衣を着た子供たちが多い。

用事を済ませて宿に向かうと、、、

通りの北側の歩道には大勢の人が！

みんなが見ている方向を見てみると、、、

週末にお祭りがあることは知っていて、上がるのは土曜日と思い宿から眺める予定でしたが、実際は金曜日のお祭り前夜祭が花火とそのものを見て初めて気付きました。

車を停めて、数分だけでしたが夏の風情を満喫することが出来ました。

ゲストの眠りを妨げるもの / The disruptor

The disruptor

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

The first conversation in with our guests the morning after check-in had always started with our

“Good morning. Could you sleep well?”

Then the reply of our guests, which is generally the answer, and which the host always expects, had been:

“Good morning. I (we) could sleep very well.”

However, a recent guest made different responses

“I couldn’t sleep from around dawn.”

When I asked the reason…

The answer was “big chorus of cicadas” that started chirping as the sky turned white was so loud that she woke up and couldn’t sleep later.

The rainy season is over and the cicadas are in great condition. It may have been louder than the cheers at the Olympic opening ceremony.

As a countermeasure, we will explain the situation in rural Japan at the time of check-in and advise guests to sleep with the windows tightly closed.

Above, I have written about the trouble we had while living in an inn surrounded by greenery.

ゲストの眠りを妨げるもの

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

当宿に滞在いただいたゲストさん、チェックインの翌朝の最初の会話は、必ず、、、

「おはようございます。よく眠れましたか？」

で始まります。

おおかたの答えであり、宿主が常に期待している答えはのは、

「おはようございます。とってもよく眠れました。」なのですが、、、

最近利用されたゲストさんの応答は異なりました。

「夜明け頃から、眠れなくなった。」とのこと。

その原因を聞くと、、、

空が白んでくる頃から鳴き始める「セミの大合唱」がうるさくて目が覚め、眠れなくなったそうです。

梅雨も明けて、セミたちも絶好調！オリンピック開会式の歓声より大きいかもしれません。

日本の田舎事情をチェックインの際に説明して、窓をしっかり閉めて寝るようアドバイスしようと思います。

関門の夏、にっぽんの夏！ / Summer in Kanmon, Summer in Japan!

Summer in Kanmon, Summer in Japan!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

It seems like summer has arrived in this town before the rainy season ends.

We will introduce you the attractions at our guesthouse in chronological order on the first Saturday of summer vacation 2024, the day after the closing ceremony of schools.

In the morning, our all guests are woken up by an alarm warning of evacuation orders due to heavy rain in the town on the opposite shore.

After that, the temperature rose rapidly and reached over 30 degrees in no time!

Although the temperature is somewhat lower than inland towns due to the proximity to the sea, this summer has been quite hot.

As the first day of summer vacation approaches its end, the light show begins as the sun sets.

The western sky gradually turns orange, creating a magical sunset time.

Shortly after the sun sets, we look down an international passenger ships set sail and depart for the neighbor country.

Later, when there was still some light left in the western sky, a popping sound was heard from far to the west.

It’s the sound of the first fireworks festival in summer of the year, children’s summer vacation.

We can enjoy the fireworks festival held in the farthest town from here in the city, even from a distance.

Well, it’s summer now! From now on, why not experience the sounds and lights of Japanese summer, which will be held somewhere in the straits every weekend, from this hight?

関門の夏、にっぽんの夏！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

どうもこの町では、梅雨が明ける前に夏が来たようです。

終業式翌日、夏休み最初の土曜日の当宿のアトラクションを時系列に紹介します。

朝は対岸の町の大雨の避難指示のアラームでゲストさん達は目を覚まされます。

その後、気温はぐんぐん上がり、あっという間に30度越え！

海が近いことで、内陸の町よりは多少気温は抑えられてはいますが、今年の夏はかなり暑いです。

そんな暑い夏休みの初日も終わりが近づいて、陽が傾くのを合図に光のショーが始まります。

西の空が徐々にオレンジに染まり、幻想的なサンセットタイムを演出します。

陽が沈むとまもなく、国際旅客船が出航、眼下を異国へと旅立っていきます。

その後、西の空にまだ光が少し残る頃、遠くから破裂音が聞こえてきます。

今年最初、夏休み最初の花火大会の音です。

市内ここから一番遠い町で開催されている花火大会を、遠目ながらここでも鑑賞できるんです。

さあ、夏！これから毎週末海峡のどこかで開催されるにっぽんの夏の音と光をここから高みの見物してみませんか？
