Japanese Title (邦題)： 「敬われる？捨てられる？」末尾に

 

Are you respected or discarded?

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

In this Respect for the Aged Week, I had a big realization.

In this country, Japan, there is a legend called “Ubasute.”

（* In ancient small village, there was a custom that elderly people were thrown into the mountains.)

My understanding was that this was a story from Nagano, but a puppet show in a TV drama introduced a similar folk tale in the Tohoku region.

According to the show, I noticed that the target of “Obasute” is read as being around 60 years old in old aging system.

Huh? 60 years old in the Japanese age system that means I’m 61 years old in present age system.

In my mind, “abandoning the elderly” was something about much older people.

But when I think about it, people back then would have been lucky to live to 60.

Come to think of it, retirement extension contracts in Japan are generally signed on one’s 60th birthday, and I realized that although names may have changed, similar values still remain in this country. (Most Japanese people accept this as “natural” though.)

If we think about it calmly, this is a prime example of something that goes against the idea of “equal pay for equal work.”

So, in the modern system of “Ubasute-yama”? Are you discarded by society? or respected?

敬われる？捨てられる？

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

この敬老ウィークに大きな気付きがありました。

この国、日本では「姥捨て」伝説というものがあります。

自分の理解では長野あたりの話と思っていたのですが、東北にもそんな民話があることを、あるドラマの挿入人形劇で紹介していました。

それによると、「姥捨て」の対象は、算えで６０歳だと読まれていることに気付きました。

え？算えで６０、、、というと満６１歳ってことだよなぁ。

自分の認識では「姥捨て」とは、もっと年配のイメージでしたが、、、

よく考えてみると、当時の人の寿命って、60生きてれば御の字だよな、と。

そういえば、定年延長の契約をするのも60になった誕生日だし、名こそ変われど今でも同じような価値観が残っていることに気付きました。（ほとんどの人はそれを「あ・た・り・ま・え」だと受け入れていますが、）

冷静に考えてみると「同一労働・同一賃金」の考えに大きく反する最たるものだよなぁ。

さて、現代版「姥捨て山」、、、世の中から捨てられる？敬われる？

それでは、既成概念を取っ払ってみても世の中から必要とされる素敵な一日を！
