Japanese Title (邦題)： 「驚きの連続！」末尾に
What made me surprised!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
When we experience something new that we’ve never done before, it is natural that there is a lot make us surprised.
The visit to Kokura Racecourse on the weekend was also full of surprises.
The first and biggest surprise was
the name of nearest monorail station.
Surprisingly, the station name “Racecourse” has a subtitle “The University of Kitakyushu.”
I can’t help but worry about the devil’s hand seducing students. (Commuting to the racecourse with student pass?)
（Inside the station, there was also a recruitment notice posted for city employees, and I realized that they were simultaneously training both employee candidates and fans of public gambling, which is one of important sources of city revenue (250 million yen). I just remembered that some of that university alumnus are horse racing fans.)
Another thing that bothered me about the station name was that only the part “The University of Kitakyushu.” was not written in any foreign language. I wondered if Kitakyushu City, which operates both the university and the monorail, may feel shame on it.
The second thing that surprised me was how many people visited the racecourse on the weekend, when the city’s biggest festival was being held.
However, I was convinced that the audience must have all come from outside the city.
What was even more surprising was that a show like this was also being held at the venue.
(*He is a super popular actor in Japan. For example he plays a role of Chinese leader of ancient military in movie “KINGDOM”.)
I was surprised that the event sponsor, JRA, has big money. However, after I think about it and found that the sponsors are probably the many people who bought horse racing tickets, not JRA.
There were other things that surprised me, but that’s all for today.

驚きの連続！
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
これまでやったことのない新しい何かを体験すると、なにかと驚くことの多いのが世の常です。
週末の小倉競馬場見学も驚きの連続でした。
まず、最初で最大の驚きは、、、
その最寄りモノレールの駅名。
なんと駅名「競馬場前」にサブタイトル「北九州市立大学前」がついていることです。
これでは、学生に対する誘惑の魔の手が心配になって仕方ありません。（学生定期で競馬場通い？）
（その駅構内には市職員募集も掲載されていて、職員候補と市歳入の原資（2.5億円）の一つ公営ギャンブルファンの両方を同時に（simultaneously）養成しているんだと気付き、知り合いの当大学OBが競馬ファンなことをつい思い出してしまいました。）
その駅名称でもう一つ気になったのは「北九州市立大学前」のところだけ外国語併記がないこと。さすがに大学・モノレールの両方を運営する北九州市も恥ずかしかったのかなと思いを巡らせてしまいました。
次に驚いたのは、町で市内最大のお祭りが開催されている週末にこれだけの観客が競馬場を訪れていること。
でも、これはきっと観客はみんな市外からいらした人たちに違いないと納得できました。
さらに驚いたのは、場内でこんなショーも開催されていたこと。
イベント・スポンサーであるJRAもお金があるもんだと驚きました。けれどもよく考えると、スポンサーはきっとJRAではなく馬券をスった大勢の皆さんなんでしょうね。
まだまだ他にも驚いたことはありましたが、今日のところはこのぐらいで。
