Very important tips for finding delicious food while traveling
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
I was writing an article about my trip to a port town that has a similar atmosphere to my own, but I forgot to mention something important:
the local gourmet food!
Of course, I did a lot of research before leaving and decided which restaurants I wanted to go to.
So, as soon as I arrived, I drove to the downtown area…
As soon as I parked my car and opened the door, I was hit with a delicious smell!
I bravely walked down the alley lined with restaurants and went to the restaurant I was looking for. I checked the menu and went inside.
It was getting late and I was extremely hungry, so I quickly ordered the menu items I had decided on.
Soon, the most popular and second most popular dishes in town were served on the table.
I finished them in no time, but somehow it felt like it was lacking. Not just the quantity, but the taste as well…
So, the next day at lunchtime, I decided to try again and visit a restaurant that was listed at the top of several guidebooks.
However, even though I thought I arrived with plenty of time for the last lunch order…
There was already a sign in front of the restaurant saying “Lunch Session Finished”!
I heard that the limit had been reached due to reservations and queues. I was so disappointed.
But being the indomitable traveler that I am, I pull myself together and come up with a backup plan.
In the first place, at my own guesthouse, I have been providing guests with information that is not introduced in guidebooks, but I realized that relying on guidebooks this time was a big mistake.
At that moment, I remembered the delicious smell from the night before.
I remembered seeing a large group of office workers lining up in front of a small restaurant, when I returned to the parking lot
So, I headed straight to the restaurant! As soon as I entered, I ordered the best dish in town.
I ordered a regular noodle dish without any unnecessary adjectives like “special.”
What came out was a very satisfying bowl of noodle with a wonderful aroma.
As I looked around the restaurant while eating, I saw autographs from many celebrities.
One that caught my eye in particular was from a singer and actor who is from this town and is very popular with Japanese women in their 30s to 50s.
There were several of his autographs on the wall, so it was clear that this was his favorite restaurant!
I would like Japanese women of this age group to head straight to this restaurant without relying on guidebooks.
So, it was a day that reminded me of the importance of trusting my nose more than travel guidebooks.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
おいらの町と似た雰囲気をもつ港町を旅したことを記事にしていて、大事なことを忘れていました。
それはその土地の名物グルメについて！
もちろん出発前に色々調べて、行きたいお店を決めていました。
というわけで、到着直後に車で町の繁華街へ、、、
駐車場に車を停め、ドアを開けた途端にうまそうな匂い！
勇んで飲食店の立ち並ぶ横丁通りを進み、お目当てのお店へ。メニューを確認して入店。
時間も遅かったのと、超絶お腹が空いていたのとで、決めていたメニューを速攻でオーダー。
程なくして、街一番・二番人気のメニューがテーブルに並びました。
あっという間に完食したのですが、なんとなく物足りない気がします。量だけでなく味の方も、、、
というわけで、翌日のお昼に複数のガイドブックの先頭に載っているお店へリベンジすることにしました。
ところが、お昼のラストオーダーの時間に十分すぎるほどの余裕を持って到着したつもりが、、、
お店の前には早々と「昼の部 終了」の看板！
聞けば、予約と行列とで規定数に達したとのこと。落胆してしまいました。
でも、そこは不屈のトラベラー。気を取りなおして代替策を練り直します。
そもそも自身の宿ではガイドブックに載らない情報をゲストさんに伝えていたのに、今回ガイドブックに頼ってしまったのが大間違いだったことに気が付きます。
で、そのタイミングで思い出したのが、前夜のうまそうな匂い。
駐車場に戻る時に、その横で大勢のサラリーマンがお店の前に行列を作っていたのを思い出しました。
というわけで、その店に直行！入店するや、あらためて街一番のメニューを注文。
「特製」とか余計な修飾のつかない普通の一杯を頼んでみました。
すると出てきたのは、なんともいい香りが漂う大満足の一杯でした。
食べながら店内を見渡すと、大勢のタレントのサイン色紙。
なかでも目についたのはこの町出身で、３０代〜５０代の日本女性に大人気の歌手兼俳優のもの。
彼のサインが複数飾られていたことから、きっと彼の行きつけの店であることが判明！
当該年代の日本人女性たちはガイドブックに頼ることなく、こちらのお店に直行してもらいたいですね。
というわけで、ガイドブックよりも、自分の鼻を信じることの大切さを思い出させられた一日でした。
