Similar but completely different – switching places

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Our guests have said that this port town looks very similar to our port town, but…

when the host actually went there, he realized that they are completely different.

Even though it was a weekday, the museum was packed with groups of students on school trips and inbound tourists, and although there were some spaces available in the parking lot for regular cars, the parking lot for large buses was full, causing traffic jams even on the surrounding roads.

Naturally, the museum was packed with people.

At the park dedicated to the prayer for peace, groups of elementary school students on school trips, foreign tourists groups, and junior high school students on school trips were all piled up together and taking commemorative photos.

Thinking back, the host remembered that there had been two large cruise ships in the harbor that morning, and another large ship docked at the same pier the previous night.

(The host also noticed some slight differences there. For example, on the terraces of the large ships that dock at our port, there are not a few passengers who choose to relax without going out sightseeing, but I didn’t see any such passengers on the terraces of the ships that docked at their port.)

There is a facility in our city called the “City Museum of Peace,” but we don’t think it has ever been as successful as this, and we doubt it ever will again.

This made us realize once again that this is a difference in the name value of cities.

However, unfortunately, the root cause of this disparity in name value is the greatest tragedy of the 20th century, and we were impressed that it was nothing other than the efforts of the citizens who live there that have turned such a negative event into a positive legacy.

(It’s a small thing, but their port management agency has created a simple yet easy-to-understand website and updated the information regarding large cruise ship calls. Past performance is also listed, making this information sharing extremely useful for those working in the tourism industry. *P.S.: However, large cruise ships bring in a huge number of tourists in a short period of time, creating a wave of inbound tourism, but only benefiting a few souvenir businesses, so they’re not really appreciated. Overall, our town, where fewer ships call, seems to be better for the residents. Even in that town, some residents avoid going into the city center while large ships are docked. That’s where the website above seems to be coming in handy. (Smile)

似て非なるもの 〜 入れ替わり立ち替わり

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

当宿のゲストさんに似てる似てると言われるかの港町とおいらの港町ですが、、、

実際に行ってみると全く違うことを実感しました。

平日というのに博物館には修学旅行の学生とインバウンドのツアー客からなる団体客が押し寄せていて、一般車の駐車場には空きが見られたものの、大型バスの駐車場が満車で周辺の道路まで混雑する始末。

当然、館内も押すな押すなの大賑わい。

平和を祈念する公園では、小学生修学旅行、ガイジン・ツアー客、中学生修学旅行のグループが多重に重なって記念撮影していました。

さかのぼって思い返すと、その朝には港に大型クルーズ船が二隻、そしてその同じ埠頭に昨晩は別の大型船が停泊していたことを思い出しました。

（そこではちょっとした違いも見受けられました。例えば、おいらの港に入港する大型船のテラスには、観光に出ずに寛がれる乗客も結構いるのですが、こちらの港に停泊する船のテラスにはそんな乗客は見受けられませんでした。）

おいらの街にも「平和のまちミュージアム」なる施設がありますが、こんな風に大盛況となることはこれまでもこれからもきっとないでしょう。

これはやはり都市のネームバリューの違いだな、とあらためて感じさせられました。

ただ、そのネームバリュー格差の大元は、残念ながら２０世紀最大の惨劇であって、そんな負の出来事を、正のレガシーに変えてきたのはそこに住む市民の努力に他ならないと脱帽させられました。

（ちょっとしたことですが、大型クルーズ船の寄港について、港を管理する機関がシンプルながら分かりやすいホームページを作成・情報更新しています。過去の実績との併記も観光従事者にはとても助かる情報共有です。これはおいらの街でも見習うべき取り組みだと感じました。 https://www.nagasaki-port.jp/cruiseschedule.html その職にあった同級生に教えてやろうと思いましたが、彼はすでに他界していたのでした。残念）

*追記：ただ、大型クルーズ船って短時間に大量の観光客を一気に運び込み、インバウンドの嵐を産む割には、潤うのは一部のお土産業者だけというあまり有り難くない存在なだけに、総合的に言えば、寄港する船の少ないおいらの街の方が住民にとってみると良いようです。かの街でも大型船が停泊している間は市街地に行くのは避けているという住民もいらっしゃいました。そこで上のホームページは活かされているみたいです。笑）
