Fire on our own side!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

This is the biggest news in this area in the past week?

One afternoon, we noticed something unusually noisy in this supposedly quiet neighborhood, and then we realized there are several helicopters flying overhead.

At the same time, messages come in from my relatives.

Apparently, a major incident has occurred in the mountain side of this town, with a warehouse fire spreading into a forest fire.

Fire engines pass by one after another on the national highway below this guesthouse,

and among the helicopters flying overhead, one red one flies toward the mountain with something hanging from its sleeve.

Is this the one I’ve been seeing so often on TV lately?

It reminded me of the recent forest fires in Yamanashi, the large forest fire in Ofunato, and even the wildfires in California and the fire in Lahaina, Hawaii, and it scared me.

Fortunately, the fire in this town was soon extinguished, but…

Northern Japan has recently been experiencing heavy snowfall, and areas south of the Kanto region are experiencing a drought.

We are always careful about fires in this firewordsdf, but I felt strongly that we needed to be even more careful.

自岸の火事！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

ここ一週間のこの界隈最大のニュースはコレ？！

ある日の午後、静かなはずのこの近隣がやけに騒がしいと思ったら、ヘリコプターが数機上空を飛び回っているではないですか？

と、同時に親類よりメッセージが飛んできます。

どうもこの町の山手で倉庫火災より山林火災へと延焼しているという一大事が起きているとのこと。

宿の下の国道では次々に消防車が通り過ぎていくし、

いくつか上空を飛んでいるヘリコプターのうち、赤いのは何かをぶら下げて山へ向かって飛んでいきます。

これって、ここのところテレビでよく見るやつ？！

最近の山梨の山火事や、大船渡での大規模な山林火災、ひいてはカリフォルニアの山火事や、ハワイ・ラハイナの火事のことまで思い出されて怖くなりました。

幸いこの町の火事はまもなく鎮圧されたようですが、、、

ここのところの日本は北日本で大雪、関東以南では渇水状態です。

普段から当宿では火元には注意していますが、さらなる注意喚起を自らに課したいと強く感じました。

Before it will vanish completely! (Article for only specific readers)

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

One morning, when I looked out at this view from the other side of the strait,

a phrase bubbled up from the depths of my memory and I couldn’t get it out of my head.

So, I decided to visit the source of that memory.

And the phrase that I can’t get out of my head is…

“In Kyushu, where the sun rises from … “

This is the second school song? or the cheer song? of a school that used to be located at this place.

Even though the song wasn’t even on the album, it somehow stuck in my memory.

I took this photo from the place that left the strongest impression on me.

It has long since lost its function as a school, and it seems that the building will finally be demolished this year.

I took this picture to capture it before it will completely disappears!

完全に消滅する前に！（対象限定記事）

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

ある朝、海峡の対岸よりこの景色を眺めた瞬間、、、

記憶の奥底にあったあるフレーズが湧き出してきて、頭から離れなくなっています。

というわけで、その記憶の源泉を訪ねてみました。

そして、その頭から離れなくなっているフレーズとは、、、

「九州ここよぉり朝日の上がるをぉ、、、」

この場所に昔あった、ある学校の第二校歌？応援歌？です。

アルバムにも記されていない歌なのに不思議と記憶に残っていたようです。

そんな記憶に一番強く残っている場所から撮影してみました。

学校としての機能は随分前に失っていますが、その学舎もとうとう今年解体されることになったそうです。

完全に消滅してしまう前に画像に残しておこうと撮影してきました！

Learning from the other side

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

After crossing the strait, I looked around to see if there were any ideas I could use or anything I could emulate, but…

I was unable to find much that could serve as a reference for a lodging guesthouse.

However there was one thing that really impressed me.

And that was the city newsletter!

It was great to learn more about the newly opened accommodation facility in more detail than I had expected through the city newsletter, in addition to this,

I was especially impressed by how well-made the newsletter itself was, and how much easier it was to read and use than the newsletters on this side of the strait, which are based on an old-fashioned style with added color and only cost more to produce.

The best thing about it is its size!

The perfect A4 size makes it easy to carry around and flip through the pages. 

The font and spacing between letters are just right, making it easy to read even for seniors.

In contrast, this one is an odd size, neither A4 nor B5, and it’s folded so it’s hard to turn the pages!

Now a days, even school handouts these days are A4…

The font size and the way it is packed into the text make me think that this must be a municipality with a very small elderly population.

How wealthy must this local government be to force color into pages that don’t even need it?

On the first floor of Kitakyushu City Hall, there is a place where publications from municipalities across the river are displayed, but they are only event-related!

I truly feel that it is the city newsletter that should be shared between government offices and that they should steal the good parts from each other.

Don’t tell me… are you pretending not to see it?!

How about step your perspective to the other side of the strait and saying, “Step outside the box*”? (*This year’s keyword, familiar to those who know it.)

対岸の手本

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

海峡を渡った先で、使えるアイデア、真似すべき工夫などないか色々見て回ったのですが、、、

宿として、参考になるものはほとんど見つけることが出来ませんでした。

でも、ひとつだけとても感心したものがありました。

それは市報！

新たにオープンした施設のことを、その市報を通して期待していた以上に詳しく知れたことも良かったのですが、

とにかく市報そのものの作りが素晴らしくて、旧態依然の様式にカラーを付けて制作コストだけアップさせた海峡こちら側の市報より抜群に読みやすく、扱いやすいことに感激しました。

なによりも良いのはそのサイズ！

ピッタリA４サイズなのが、持ち運びや誌面をめくるのにちょうどいい。

フォントや文字間スペースも適切で高齢者でも読みやすい。

対して、こちら側のはA４でもB５でもない中途半端なサイズで、さらに折り曲げているからめくりにくい！

イマドキ学校のプリントですらA４なのに、、、ね。

きっと高齢者が超少ない自治体なんだろうなぁ、と思わせる文字サイズに詰め込み具合。

内容も、その必要もないページに無理やりカラーを差し込んだりして、どんだけ裕福な自治体なんでしょう？

北九州市役所の１階には対岸の自治体の刊行物を差し立てている場所があるも、イベント関係のものだけ！

思うに「市報」こそお互い役所間で共有しあって、良いとこを盗みあってもらいたいもんだ、と心から感じました。

まさか、、、見て見ぬふりしてたりするぅ？！

視点を海峡の向こうに「一歩、はみだす*」っていうはどうでしょう？ （*分かる人には分かる今年のキーワード）

それでは、良い仕組みはどんどん取り込んで素敵な一日を！
