Over the Burger!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

A specialty hamburger from Kyushu’s western port town.

Before I bit into it, I tried to take a picture from a distance to get an insert image, and my eye was drawn to the background.

That’s right, this was the spot I most wanted to visit on this drive to Western Kyushu.

This place was once used as the setting for a fictional futuristic city in a Japanese TV drama, and ever since I found out that the filming location was in Kyushu, I’ve wanted to visit for about three years.

This time, I was very happy to be able to go to a place where I could see this important cultural property from the best possible angle, which was probably used in the drama.

It was a truly mysterious sight.

ハンバーガーの彼方に！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

九州の西の港町の名物ハンバーガー。

かぶりつく前に、引き気味でインサート画像を撮ろうとして、その背景が目に留まりました。

そうそう、今回の西九州ドライブ、ここが一番行きたかったスポットだったんです。

かつてドラマの舞台として、架空の未来都市の設定でこの場所が使われていて、そのロケ地が九州にあるということを知ってから、３年ほどの間ずっと訪ねてみたかったんです。

今回、ドラマの中でも使われたであろう、一番いい画角でこの重要文化財を望むことができる場所まで行くことができて大満足。

なんとも神秘的な光景でした。

An unexpected, pleasant surprise!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

The conversation has taken us forward to the Fukuoka restaurant, starting with the smell of delicious pork bone soup, but

let’s return to the gourmet food of western port city in Kyushu.

Next, I’d like to talk about a local specialty dish that I heard about for the first time during my trip west.

The name of the dish is…

Turkish rice!

In fact, I had no idea what this famous dish even was called.

Having learned his lesson of the disadvantages of guidebooks from the Champon noodle the day before, the host put all his efforts into finding a really great restaurant this time!

The restaurant is located at the foot of a mountain famous for its night view of the city.

The shop has a history of over 40 years, dating back to when the previous owner founded it, but it has only been a few years since current owner took over.

As I was relaxing in the coffee shop-style interior, which still retains a strong Showa-era atmosphere,

the Turkish rice was brought out!

The food here is hearty and comes in a wide variety of flavors, and the kimono-clad owner calls it “Kid’s Meal for adults.”

This was a dinner that truly embodied the feeling of shopping in bulk, making kid’s dream come true.

(It’s a delightful combination of curry, pork cutlet rice, and spaghetti, without “dividing” anything.)

After my stomach was full and I had time to relax, the shop showed me how to move the many tin toys they had in stock, and I had a really enjoyable time.

Well, we’re already losing with just the Champon and Sara-Udon, but now that they’ve added Turkish Rice, combination of our Yaki Udon and Yaki Curry can’t be competed.

想定外っ、いい意味のサプライズ！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

旨い豚骨スープの匂いの話題から、話が先行して福岡のお店にまで戻ってしまいましたが、

あらためて九州は西の港町のグルメに話を戻しましょう。

次は今回の西への遠征の間に、初めて聞いた街の名物料理について、

その料理の名前は、、、

トルコライス！*

実はそんな名物料理、名前すら全く知りませんでした。

ガイドブックに頼ることに前日のちゃんぽんで懲りた宿主は、今回は総力を駆使して本当にいいお店を見つけました！

そのお店は街を望む夜景で有名な山の麓にあります。

お店の歴史は創業した先代から数えると４０年以上だということですが、引き継いでからはまだ数年らしいです。

昭和の雰囲気が十二分に残る「喫茶店」風の店内で癒されていると、

そのトルコライスが出てきました、ド〜ン！

ボリューム満点、味のバラエティもふんだんなこちらの料理、着物姿のお店の奥様いわく「大人の『お子様ランチ』」。

まさにその表現こそがぴったりな大人買いの気分を満喫できるディナーとなりました。

（カレーとカツライスとスパゲティを足して「割らない」なんともうれしい構成です。）

お腹もいっぱいになって、まったりとなった時間には、お店に多数収蔵されているブリキのおもちゃを動かして見せてくれたりして、とても楽しいひと時を過ごすことが出来ました。

う〜ん、ちゃんぽん・皿うどんだけで既に負けているのに、トルコライスまで出てこられては、焼きうどんと焼きカレーでは太刀打ちできませんね。

（焼きうどんと焼きカレーの上に糠炊きのせてみる？）

My pilgrimage to TV location place has become my regular haunt!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

It seems that the people of Kyushu implicitly understand and share the idea each other that there are a particular flavor in this world that they absolutely adore, and that the flavor is deeply connected to a certain unique smell.

This smell also filled the surrounding area from a delicious restaurant we had smelled and found in the western port town.

This restaurant I stopped by on my way home had the same smell!

I first came across this restaurant after seeing it featured on my favorite TV show, so I decided to make a pilgrimage to the show’s filming locations,

but now I’m hooked by the smell and it’s become a regular!

To be precise, I was captivated by the smell, the taste, and the unbelievable price, so I always stop by when I visit the Fukuoka area.

Even if I paid twice the price for this ramen, I realized that there is no such thing as ramen that is twice as delicious, so I made it my regular place.

Another TV program investigated how they could offer tonkotsu ramen at this price…

The answer was, surprisingly, IE (Industrial Engineering)!

Speaking of IE, it’s a manufacturing technique that I was good at when I was working in the production department as a company businessman, and hearing the inside story of their sales efforts made me like this restaurant even more.

A three-day weekend begins in Japan today, and I imagine many people will be heading out for autumn (or early winter?) outings.

According to the weather forecast, the weather will also support this.

Since it will be a great day for sightseeing, why not use your nose to discover some truly delicious food that you’ve never tried before?

聖地巡礼が、行きつけのお店になっちゃった！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

きっとこの世の中には、九州人が愛してやまない味があって、その味はある特有の匂いと深く関わっていることを、九州人は暗黙のうちに理解・共有しているようです。

西の港町で匂いで嗅ぎつけた美味しい店からもこの匂いが周囲一帯に漂っていました。

それと同じ匂いがするのが、帰り道に立ち寄ったこちらのお店！

こちらのお店は、大好きなテレビ番組で紹介されていたのを、番組ロケ地を聖地巡りしたのがきっかけですが、

今では、この匂いにやられて行きつけのお店に！

正確にいうと、この匂いと味と、そしてこの信じられない値段に魅了されてしまい、福岡市方面に行くときにはかならず立ち寄っています。

このラーメンの料金を二倍払ったとしても、二倍美味しいラーメンなんて存在しないと実感できたから、行きつけに。

また他のテレビ番組では、どうしてこの価格でとんこつラーメンを提供できるかを調査していましたが、、、

その答えは、なんとIE（Industrial Engineering)!

IEといえば、会社員時代に生産部門にいた自分が得意としていた製造技術で、そんな営業努力の裏話を聞いて、さらにこちらのお店が好きになりました。

日本では今日から三連休です。秋の（初冬の？）行楽に出かける方も少なくないと思います。

天気予報によれば、空模様もそれを後押するようです。

折角の行楽日和、鼻を効かせてまだ食べたことのない本当に旨いもんと巡りあってみるなんてどうでしょう？
