Biggest selling point may be biggest weak point

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

The biggest selling point of the brand new resort hotel on the other side of the strait is…

the view of the strait from the guest rooms, just like this guesthouse.

What’s more, all their guest rooms have view of the strait, which is amazing.

However, getting this view of the strait can actually be quite hard to have.

From our daily experiences, we have always thought that it might be even more difficult on the other side than on this side, and staying there this time made us realize that this was indeed the case.

When I woke up in the morning, the view of the pre-dawn sky from my guest room was just beautiful.

Then, after enjoying the facility’s recommended “Sunrise Infinity Pool,” I bought some breakfast and returned to the room…

It was a bit unbelievable.

The sunshine was so bright that even though it was early January, we had to turn on the air conditioning to make the room cooler! So we were able to stay comfortable until check-out at noon.

I was curious, so I also checked the angle and direction of sunrise until the summer solstice, and it looks a little scary.

Judging from the color of the window glass, it appears to be UV resistant, but it still transmits infrared rays.

Furthermore, the design-focused exterior lacks the balconies or eaves that act as buffers against the sunlight often found in tropical resorts, meaning sunlight streams directly into the guest rooms.

The management seems to be encouraging guests to stay for multiple nights, but air conditioning during the day when guests stay for multiple nights may not be able to achieve the SDGs as envisioned, both in terms of guest comfort and air conditioning costs.

Although it may be none of our business, in order to overcome this same weakness, our accommodation has made the most of its small size and guest-friendliness, and getting the cooperation of our guests, we have managed to keep air conditioning costs as low as possible.

However, I felt that common sense when using a hotel and expectations of a view of the strait would work against them, and that consecutive nights might end up being unwelcome for both guests and hotel management.

Our advice to those considering using it during three seasons is to carefully check guests reviews of the daytime comfort before making a reservation.

最大のウリこそが、最大の弱点かも

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

対岸にできた真新しいリゾートホテルの最大のウリは、、、

客室からの海峡の眺めだそうで、そこは当宿と同じ。

それも全客室が海峡ビューだそうですごいものです。

でも、この海峡ビューっていうのが、実は大変だったりするんです。

日々の経験から、対岸だとおそらくこちら側よりもさらに大変かもしれないとずっと思ってて、今回利用しててやっぱりだと実感しました。

朝目覚めてイチバン、客室から眺める夜明け前の空は、なんともいい感じでした。

で、施設イチオシの「朝焼けインフィニティプール」を満喫したのち、朝食を買って戻ってくると、、、

ちょっと大変なことになっていました。

というのも日当たりが最高すぎて、１月初旬というのに冷房スイッチオン！正午のチェックアウトまでなんとか快適に過ごすことが出来ました。

気になったので、ついでに夏至までの日の出の角度を確認したところ、これがちょっとヤバそうです。

窓ガラスはその色合いから紫外線対応はしてあるみたいですが、赤外線は透過している様子。

さらに言うと、見た目のデザイン重視の外装には南国リゾートで見られるような日差しの緩衝スペースとしてのベランダもひさしもなく、直接客室に日差しが入ってくる構造です。

経営陣は連泊利用を推奨されているようですが、連泊時の日中の空調はゲストの快適さと空調コストの両面から、もしかしたら想定されているようなSDGsを実現できないかもしれません。

余計なお世話ですが、同様の弱点をクリアするために、当宿では小規模でゲストフレンドリーな特徴を最大限活かして、ゲストさんの協力も得ることで、なんとか空調コストを極力抑えることを実現出来ています。

けれども、こちらではホテル利用の常識や海峡ビューへの期待が逆に働いて、結果として連泊は両者にとって歓迎できないものになるかもしれないと感じました。

利用を検討している方へのアドバイスは、スリーシーズンの利用は、利用客による日中の快適性のレビュー等をよく確認してから予約するのが良いでしょう。
