Pitfalls of a First-Time Original Design – A Host’s finding

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Working in the hospitality industry, there are two reasons why I feel uneasy when staying at other accommodations as a guest.

One of them is that if I see any good hospitality activities being practiced, I look around, hoping to adopt them at our guesthouse.

Another one is that we tend to look for flaws in the facility, or any negative aspects in terms of hospitality. (If we find something like that, we would like to look back at our hotel and take appropriate measures.)

With that in mind, I noticed many things while staying at the brand new accommodation facility on the opposite bank, but there were three things that particularly caught my attention.

The first thing that caught my attention was

the flow of people using the pool.

I felt a strong sense of discomfort that something that is almost always taken into consideration at public swimming pools and the like was not being taken into consideration at all.

That is the “placement of the shower.”

Usually, showers are located in unavoidable places along the route leading to the pool, but here there were only showers to take before getting changed in the changing room after using the pool, and there were no showers at all along the route leading to getting into the pool, which I felt was unsanitary.

It feels like jumping into an open-air bath without first pouring water over yourself, and it makes me feel really sick.

After I changed into my swimsuit and made it to the pool, I realized I hadn’t showered, so I went back to the changing room, showered, and then went back into the pool.

I know from my work and experience that bathing habits and toilet usage vary depending on the person using the facility, and that not everyone’s body is hygienic.

The design of these pools shows that they are aware that simply adding chlorine will ensure hygiene.

The pool allows young children who are still in diapers to use the pool on the condition that they wear “water diapers,” but I would like them to take care to maintain basic hygiene even before wearing “water diapers.”

So, for those who are planning to use this facility and pool, I would advise you to avoid putting your face in the water as much as possible, or to always bring goggles with you.

初めての独自設計ゆえの落とし穴 〜 宿主の気付き

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

宿泊業に携わっていると、ゲストとして他の宿泊施設を利用する際に二つの意味で落ち着かなくなります。

そのひとつは、何かいいおもてなしが実践されていれば、当宿でも採用したいと思ってキョロキョロあたりを見回してしまうこと。

もうひとつは、その施設の欠点というか、おもてなし面でなにかマイナス項目はないか粗探ししてしまうこと。（もし見つけてしまったら、当宿のことを振り返って確認・善処したいからです。）

そうした観点で、対岸の真新しい宿泊施設に今回滞在してみて、気付きはたくさんありましたが、中でも気になったことが三つ。

まず最初の気になったことは、プール利用の動線。

公共のプールなどでは必ず配慮されていることが、全然留意されていないことに強い違和感を感じました。

それは「シャワーの配置」。

通常、プールに至る動線の途中の避けて通れないところに「シャワー」が配置されているのに、こちらではプールの利用後に更衣室で着替える前に浴びるためのシャワーしかなく、プール入水までの動線にまったくシャワーがないことを不衛生に感じました。

掛け湯をしないまま、露天風呂に飛び込まれているようで、気持ち悪さが拭えません。

自分は水着に着替えてプールにまでたどり着いた後、シャワーを浴びていないことに気付き、もう一度更衣室まで戻って、シャワーを浴びてから再びプールに戻ったくらいです。

利用する人によって、日常の入浴の仕方やトイレの使い方がまちまちで、全ての人の身体が衛生的だとはいえないことを、職業と経験から知っているから（チェックアウト後の清掃時に、驚かされることもあります）こそです。

塩素を混ぜるだけで、衛生的に大丈夫だと認識していることがこうしたプールの設計から読み取れます。

おむつが取れていない幼児に「水遊び専用おむつ」の着用を条件に利用許可をしているプールということですが、「水遊び専用おむつ」以前の基本的な衛生管理をしっかりしてもらいたいものです。

というわけで、これからこちらの施設を、プールを、利用しようと考えている方には、極力水に顔をつけないか、もしくは必ずゴーグルを持参すること、をアドバイスしたいと思います。
