This is also the diversity!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
I’ve been posting a lot about food lately,
but when it comes to the quintessential Japanese food,
it’s got to be… rice!
Come to think of it, I saw that it was sold at the supermarket closest to this guesthouse.
Taiwanese rice!!
As with the California rice we introduced previously, this type of rice seems to sell out within a few days.
As a personal wish, I would like to see Korean rice and Thai rice added to these, so that rice from each region can always be selected in the stores.
(The price is quite high for Californian or Taiwanese rice, but)
My host’s parents used to run a rice store, and I recall that from that time there was a category of rice called “standard price rice.”
I remember it being much cheaper than independently sold rice, probably because it contained a mixture of old, very old rice.
To help out at the store, I delivered rice to customers by bicycle or motorcycle. Even though I was a junior high or high school student at the time, I had an intuitive understanding that the grade of rice corresponded to the condition of the homes I was delivering to, and I remember I could predicting that when I was delivering “standard price rice,” it would be to a public housing unit or similar home.
Given the recent rice turmoil, I feel that it may be time to reinstate the standard price rice classification.
I think it’s good to have the diversity of domestic rice as well as the diversity and variety of imported rice.
Despite the constant shouts of “diversity! diversity!”, I’m honestly a little put off by the limited (controlled) diversity in Japan.
(Also, have you ever seen Korean cars in Japan, even though they are sold all over the world? It feels strange that only the products that lose out in the global market (such as LCD TVs, solar panels, smartphones, computers, etc.) are sold in the domestic Japanese market.)
I can kind of understand why an old blond guy who wants to make America great again would complain that Japan isn’t fair.

これもまた多様性！
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
このところ食べ物の話題ばかり載せていますが、
ザ・にっぽんの食べものといえば、やっぱり、、、
お米！
そういえば、当宿の最寄りのスーパーマーケットで販売されていました。
台湾米！！
以前紹介したカリフォルニア米もそうでしたが、こうしたお米は数日のうちに完売してしまうようです。
個人的な希望を言うと、これらに韓国米やタイ米加わえて、いつも店頭で選べれば良いのになぁと思います。
（カリフォルニア米・台湾米にしては価格はめちゃ高ですが、）
宿主の実家は以前米屋を営んでいて、その頃の記憶に「標準価格米」といわれる区分のお米があったことを思い出します。
おそらく古米、古古米が配合されているせいで、自主流通米よりもずいぶんと安かった記憶があります。
お店の手伝いにと、そうしたお米をお客様へ自転車やバイク（カブ）で配達したのですが、お米のグレードと配達先のお宅の様子とが対応していることを、当時中高生でありながら、感覚的に把握していて、「標準価格米」を積むときには市営住宅だなと予測していたことを思い出しました。
最近の米騒動を見るにつけ、あの標準価格米的な区分って、今また再開すべきではないのかなと感じています。
国産米の多様性に、海外米の多様性、バラエティがあっていいと思います。
多様性だ！ダイバーシティだ！とか叫ぶ割には、島国日本の限られた（管理された）多様性に、正直少し嫌気がさしているんです。
（他にも、世界中でものすごく韓国車は走っているのに、見かけたことありますか？世界市場で競争に負けたものだけ（液晶テレビや、ソーラーパネル、スマホやパソコンなど）国内市場に入ってくるのは、違和感でしかありません。）
アメリカを再び偉大にすると叫ぶ金髪のお爺さんが日本は不公平だと文句を言うのもちょっとわかる気がします。
