RETRO on the other side
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
Our port town on this side of the Kanmon Straits is promoting its “RETRO image, even naming entire waterfront area after them.
But there’s RETRO on the other side of the strait, too.
Going back even further than the Showa Retro Museum we introduced earlier, there is retro buildings from the Meiji and Taisho eras that still exist there.
We will leave the detailed explanations of each building to online sources, but here we would like to share some information so that you can get a sense of the atmosphere.
If you cross the strait from this side by small ferry boat and walk to the main street, the first thing that catches your eye are these three historical buildings, located on either side of a large intersection.
However, until now, we have not heard many stories from our guests about seeing these buildings.
One building is still functioning as a post office and another can also be used as a base for sightseeing, so we would like to introduce it to our future guests as a place to stroll around and work off their hunger after filling up on sushi.

対岸レトロ
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
関門海峡のこちら側、我らが港町ではウォーターフロント地区全体を命名するなど「レトロ」を大々的にウリにしていますが、、、
海峡の向こうにもレトロ、、、あります。
先に紹介した昭和レトロ館から年代をさらに遡り、明治大正レトロの建物が現存しています。
建物個々の細かい説明はネット情報にお任せするとして、ここではその雰囲気だけを察していただけるよう共有したいと思います。
こちら側から海峡をボートで渡り、大通りまで歩くと目に飛び込んでくるのが、大きな交差点を挟んで建つこちらの三つの歴史的建造物。
ただ、これまで当宿のゲストさんたちからは、これら建物を見られたという話はあまり聞いたことはありませんでした。
現行の郵便局として今でも機能している建物や、観光の拠点として使える建物だったりするので、これからのゲストさんには、お寿司で満たされた後の腹ごなし散策スポットとして紹介していきたいと思います。
