Where to visit next?
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
Host’s trip to Nagasaki, inspired by a book.
He could experience the joy of traveling with a theme in mind.
As a result, he felt a strong desire to visit other villages and churches someday.
This time he was only able to visit just a small number of churches in Nagasaki.
When I say “just a small number,” I mean only a number of the churches and villages featured in the book, but I also feel this way because I was surprised when I saw a map showing the distribution of churches still standing in Nagasaki posted at Oura Cathedral, realizing that I had only seen a very very small number of them.
The map of Nagasaki shows a rough count of 138 churches, making it hard to decide where to visit next.
I think it would be great if people could tour Nagasaki’s churches in chronological order, following the history of Christian faith, just like the pilgrimages in Shikoku 88 or the stamp rallies at Michi-no-Eki (roadside stations).
Of course, it is fully understandable that churches function as places of daily faith, so I feel that if there was a guide which could tell us whether it was possible to visit or not, or whether it was possible to just see the exterior, it would be beneficial for both parties and would avoid any troubles and complaints.
So, next time I would definitely like to go to remote islands of Nagasaki.
By the way, I would like to take a journey of the heart, making sure to be aware of the basic etiquette for visiting churches, which is not clearly written in commercial guidebooks.

次どこ行く？
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
一冊の本をきっかけに始まった宿主の長崎旅。
何かテーマを持って旅することの楽しみを体験できました。
その結果、いつかまた別の集落や教会を訪ねてみたいという気持ちが強くなりました。
今回は長崎にあるほんの一部の教会しか訪ねることができませんでした。
ここで一部というのは、本に取り上げられた教会や集落の一部だということもありますが、長崎に現存する教会の分布が分かる地図が大浦天主堂に掲示されているのを見て、本当にごく一部しか見ていないんだなぁと驚いたことからの感想です。
その長崎の地図の上には、ざっと数えても138もの教会が提示されていて、次どこに行こうか悩ましいですね。
いっそ四国の巡礼や道の駅のスタンプラリーのように、長崎の教会もキリスト教信仰の歴史を順序立てて巡れるようになると良いなぁと思います。
もちろん、日常の信仰の場所として教会が機能していることは十分理解出来るので、拝観可能か否か、外観だけなら可などが分かるガイドがあれば失礼も生じずに、双方にとってメリットが大きいのではと感じます。
というわけで、次は是非とも離島に渡ってみたいですね。
そうそう、商業主義のガイドブックにはしっかりと書かれていない、教会訪問の基本マナーもしっかり心得て、心の旅をしたいと思います。
