Now I finally understand why young Korean couples are so keen to celebrate anniversaries of how many years they’ve been together
It seems that these unspoken customs are what are driving the trend towards later marriage, ultimately resulting in the worst birthrate in the OECD.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
北九州市が誇る工場夜景をバックに、長いお付き合いを経ての皿倉山山頂でのプロポーズに心躍らせすぎて疲れてしまったのか、彼女はいつの間にか客室で寝てしまったようです。
彼女が寝入ったのを確認して、戻ってきた彼氏の方から真相を伝える告白がありました。
プロポーズまで８年もかかったのには、お隣の国特有の深刻な事情があるそうです。
それは、、、住居！
隣国では、結婚に際しては、男がしっかりと住むところを確保できないと娘はやれない的な「暗黙のルール」が存在するようです。
そのため男性は時間をかけて、住宅購入のための頭金を貯金しなくてはならないそうです。
特に最近の首都圏・近郊の不動産価格の高騰から、その準備にかつてなかった程の時間がかかるようです。
（きっと兵役につくことによる余計な２年分の時間経過も影響しているんでしょうね。）
今回のゲストさんの場合は、日本人の誰もが知るような有名な大企業にお勤めであっても、８年かかったようです。
なるほど、これで韓国の若者カップルが「付き合って何年」という記念日をなぜこぞってお祝いするのかがようやく分かってきました。
こうした暗黙の慣習が、晩婚化を推進して、結果的にはOECD最悪の少子化に至るというからくりなんでしょうね。
（但し、理由はこれだけではないんでしょうけれど、、、）
お二人には心よりお幸せになって欲しいですね！

P.S. 宿屋をやる前には、韓国の男は「釣った魚には餌をやらない」的な極端な亭主関白というのがステレオタイプでしたが、実際はけっこうつらい立場を生き抜いているんですね。
