Who the hell make the situation?

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Whenever I take a break from the hustle and bustle of hospitality, there’s one piece of news that I remember.

When I first saw this news earlier this month, I nearly spit out what I was eating.

Having seen with my own eyes the abnormal situations occurring all over Japan, I am astonished at this realization.

When we talk with our guests about the crowds in big cities and tourist spots, they always reply, “Compared to that, it’s really quiet here and satisfied with this atmosphere.“

Whatever the reason, we would be happy if people could use this place to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the country in peace.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

おもてなしの慌ただしさが一息つくたびに、思い出してしまうニュースがあります。

今月初旬に初めてこのニュースを見た瞬間、食べていたものを思わず吹き出しそうになりました。

日本各地で起こっているその異常事態をこの目で見ているだけに、この認識には驚かされます。

ここでゲストさんと都市部・観光地の混雑の話をすると、決まって「酷いひどい、でもそれに比べてここは静かでいいです」と答えが返ってきます。

そうそう、混雑や雑踏が嫌なら、当宿のゲストさんたちのように落ち着いて旅行・滞在できるところを選べばいいだけ。

混雑の原因はともかく、そんな喧騒からは逃れて、この国を落ち着いて味わう場所としてココをご利用いただければうれしいですね。

失敗ばかりせずに、旅の途中で寛ぐということ / To minimize mistakes and maximize relaxation during the trip

To minimize mistakes and maximize relaxation during the trip

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Although I had a super disappointing experience at a super famous Tokyo public bath…

But that doesn’t mean I always fail.

In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that was my only one failure choosing public bath mentioned previously.

For example, this is the bath located at the end of the cherry blossom tunnel.

Just as I entered the bathroom, a family left, so I had the bathroom all to myself.

Until the junior soccer team arrived, I was able to use the large hall by myself as a resting area after the bath and relax to my heart’s content.

By the way, this is a bathhouse located in a town where a dinosaur (or monster?) looks like it’s about to bite Mt. Fuji.

However, to be able to relax consistently, it’s the best idea to create a regular place to hang out at while traveling.

For example, like this…

The first one is a bathhouse in a post town that was founded in 1879.

The second one is one of the last two remaining in the city, and according to the attendant, it has more than 50 years of history.

The last bath is one I always use. This time, due to traffic congestion, I arrived 15 minutes before closing time, but after some negotiation, I was able to enter the bath punctually.

I have many other favorite places, but these are just some of the ones I visited during my trip in April.

失敗を最小限に、旅の途中で寛ぐということ

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

東京の超有名銭湯で超がっかりな体験をしてしまった宿主ですが、、、

決していつも失敗しているわけではありません。

むしろ、先にあげた銭湯だけが失敗だったといっても過言ではありません。

例えばこちらは、さくらのトンネルを抜けた先にあるお風呂。

自分が入るのと入れ替わりに親子連れが上がっていったために浴室は貸切状態。

湯上がりの休憩スペースもジュニアのサッカーチームが来るまでは広間をひとりで使って思いっきり寛ぐことができました。

ちなみにこちらは恐竜（怪獣？）が富士山に噛みつきそうな町にあるお風呂です。

でも、コンスタントに寛ぐためには、旅先にも定番（いきつけ）の場所を作ることです。

たとえばこんな具合に、、、

一つ目は明治12年創業の宿場町にあるお風呂。

二つ目はこちらの市内に残った最後の二軒のうちの一つ、番台で聞くと５０年以上の歴史があるそうです。

最後のお風呂は本当にいつも利用しているところ。今回は渋滞のせいで閉店１５分前となってしまいましたが交渉の末時間厳守で入れてもらえたお風呂です。

他にも定番はいくつもありますが、以上がこの４月の旅で立ち寄った行きつけの一部です。

それでは、いつもの場所で思う存分寛いで、すっかりリフレッシュして次の旅（人生）へと望む素敵な一日を！

Learn from different industries

Every time traveling between Kitakyushu and Tokyo, the host goes on a B-grade gourmet hunt…

There’s another place he is still touring. That is

SENTO (Japanese public bath)!

I’ve been going to SENTOs since I lived in Tokyo, and when I was thinking about opening a lodging in the Tokyo area, I first checked out the public baths in the area.

This is the public bath that I tried for the first time!

All Tokyo’s SENTO funs know this SENTO. I visited to the SENTO that they opened in Omotesando, Harajuku last year.

In contrast to the one in Harajuku, this facility has been designated a national tangible cultural property, and even the gate is impressive.

It is very famous because of the unique building and young people are leading the way in making it popular, but…

being too famous had a fatal flaw.

That means… it’s super crowded. The bathroom, the dressing room, and the rest area next to the ticket counter!

In particular, the bathroom was overflowing with people, even reaching the hallway, and we had to wait a while to get to the washing space. Of course, the bathtub was also crowded with people such as potatoes being washed in the bowl.

I probably won’t go there again. (Like this, sometimes the host make mistakes.)

When I mentioned this to an owner lady of my favorite public bath near my Tokyo base, she immediately replied, “That’s not a public bath!”

“That’s an event space. After all, a public bath should be a place where you can relax and refresh yourself,” she told me, teaching me the essence of a public bath.

The bathhouse we visited is located opposite our guesthouse, where we prioritize making sure that our guests have a comfortable stay, even before it becomes famous.

Although we are in different industries, I could learn the most important things about hospitality from the SENTO.

異業種から学ぶ

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

北九州・東京間の二拠点を移動するたびに、B級グルメを巡っている宿主ですが、、、

他にも、今まだ巡っているもう一つの場所があるんです。それが、、、

銭湯！

東京にいた頃から、銭湯には通っていて、東京エリアで宿を開業しようと考えていた時にはまずは周辺の銭湯からチェックしていたほどです。

そんな宿主が今回、初めてチャレンジした銭湯がこちら！

東京の銭湯好きなら知らない人はいないお風呂です。こちらの系列で昨年原宿表参道にオープンしたお風呂には行きました。

原宿のそれとは対照的に、こちらは国の有形文化財にも指定されている施設で、門構えから立派。

類稀な建物であること、若者が先頭に立って盛り上げているせいもあって、とても有名なのですが、、、

有名すぎるが故の致命的な欠点を抱えていました。

それは、、、めっちゃ混んるということ。浴室も脱衣所も番台横の休憩スペースも！

特に浴室は通路まで人が溢れ、洗い場につくまでしばらく待たなくてはならないほど。もちろん湯船も芋洗い状態でした。

多分、二度と行かないかなと思います。（という具合に、たまにハズすこともあるのが宿主の心眼です。）

東京拠点近くの行きつけの銭湯のおばちゃんにこの話をすると「あれは銭湯じゃない！」と即答。

「ありゃイベントスペース。やっぱり銭湯はゆっくりリフレッシュできる場所でないと。」と銭湯の肝を教えてもらいました。

有名である以前に、利用いただくみなさんに快適に過ごしてもらうことを最優先に考えている当宿とは反対に位置する今回の銭湯でしたが、

異業種ではありながら、おもてなしする上での一番大切なことを教えてもらいました。
