About today’s Japan, especially our Western guests, they keep repeating that everything is cheap in Japan.

He said this week that when he goes out to eat, he can order food for three in Japan, despite paying for one in the Western countries.

When viewed by global standards, prices in Japan may be quite cheaper than Japanese people think.

At the same time, now may be a good time to buy Japanese companies that have more technology and know-how than Japanese managers realize.

Even if the weak yen causes stocks of export companies to rise and foreign currency income appears to increase when converted into yen, it may not be enough to be happy about it.

Low prices, cheap labor, cheap Japanese yen, cheap Japanese companies!

There’s a dispute over a giant convenience store, and at one point a car manufacturer ousted its president, who was French. Isn’t that also having a problem?

The targets were so good that the Japanese electric company was even targeted by Taiwanese companies…!

The country of rising sun, for foreigners, by foreigners, and of foreigners…

I hope that the appropriate people will take appropriate action to prevent our country from becoming such a bargain-base country.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

今の日本は、とくに欧米のゲストさんにいわせると、なんでも安いと連呼します。

今週も言ってました、外食に出かけると欧米では一人分の料金なのに、日本では三人分が注文できてしまうって。

日本人が思っている以上に、グローバルスタンダードで見れば、日本の物価は激安なのかもしれません。

同時に日本の経営者が思っている以上に、技術やノウハウを持った日本企業は今が買いドキなのかもしれません。

円安で輸出企業の株が上がっても、外貨収入が円換算して見かけ増えたとしても、喜んでばかりもいられないのかもしれませんね。

安い物価、安い労働力、安い日本円、安いにっぽん企業！

コンビニも揉めてるし、一時はフランス人？社長を追い出した車メーカーなどもまたヤバいのでは？

目の付けどころが良すぎた結果、台湾企業に目の付けられた電機メーカーもかつてあったし、、、ね！

外国人の、外国人による、外国人のためのにっぽん、、、

そんな大安売りな国にならないよう、しかるべき人たちには、しっかり対応してほしいですね。

Recently when I go out in town I see deja vu everywhere.

Doesn’t this look similar to what happened several years ago?

It was the critical shortage of face mask!

They’ve been giving themselves lofty titles like “food security” and making it seem like we’re doing something about it, but our government is so weak and slow to act!

Even our staple food, rice, has such a low level of management ability.

As I was thinking about this, some curiousnews came to my mind.

This must be a godsend!

When I was stationed in the US, I ate California rice every day, and I never felt it was inferior to Japanese rice. I know this is true because the son of a former rice shop owner said so.

( During the last rice riots, fake information was circulating in Japan that “California rice tastes bad.”)

I understand that the aim is to protect Japanese farmers, but I never eat it in Japan and I never saw it in stores, but now I know that Japan has imposed a 700% tariff on it!

( Come to think of it, we don’t see many Korean cars in Japan, even though they sell so well around the world. This happens a lot on island nations. )

Now, when rice shortages and rising prices are critical issues in Japan, importing rice at one-eighth of the price, even temporarily, would resolve the supply shortage, stabilize prices, and serve as a bargaining chip in tariff negotiations between Japan and the United States, which would make Trump smile. It would truly be a win-win-win situation.

If it is only temporary, I don’t think rice farmers, who understand the current situation intuitively, would be strongly opposed.

そう、マスクですっ！

食の安全保障とか偉そうなタイトルをつけて、これまでいかにもやってますポーズをとってきましたが、我が国の政府はなんて（頭が）弱くてフットワークがとろいんでしょう！

主食の米でさえこんな低レベルの管理能力ですよ。

と、そんなことを考えていたら、横からこんなニュースが飛び込んできました。

これぞ渡りに船っ！

アメリカに駐在していた当時、毎日カリフォルニアのお米を食べていましたが、日本のそれと比べても遜色を感じたことはありませんでした。元米屋の息子が言うんだから間違いありません。

（先の米騒動の時は日本国内では「カリフォルニア米は不味い」というフェイク情報が流れていたようですが、、、）

日本の農家を守るという肩書きも分かりますが、国内ではまったく食べることがないし、ストアで見かけることもないと思っていたら日本が関税を７００％かけていたんですね！

（そういえば、世界であれだけ売れている韓国の車も見かけませんよね。こうしたことが島国ではよく起きます。笑）

米不足・高騰が死活問題の今こそ、一時的でも８分の１の価格で輸入すれば、供給不足解消、価格安定、日米の関税交渉の交渉カードになってトランプも微笑む、正にWin Win Winの対応です。

一時的であれば、現状を肌感覚で理解する米農家も強くは反対しないように思います。

あぁ、あのお米が食べられるとしたら、、、ちょっとうれしい妄想が早くも止まらなくなっています。

This Kanmon area was enveloped in warmth on Thursday as well, and the topic of wage increases seemed to be attracting attention in Japanese society.

Why do person who run cheap lodgings in Japanese countryside still care about spring labor offensives, even though I am no longer part of that generation?

It is because of our guests.

The majority of our guests are in their late 20s to early 40s,

and many of them are freelancers or non-regular workers, no matter from this country or abroad.

If the person is a full-time employee or part-time employee directly employed by a company, there is less need to worry about a wage increase.

For temporary workers who have an intermediary in their employment relationship, and freelancers who are treated as subcontractors as self-employed individuals, it is unclear how wage increases such as those brought about by spring labor offensives will lead to improvements in their living standards.

It doesn’t seem like this is something that is taken into consideration in Japanese corporate culture, although it may be the case overseas.

I want all our guests to have a fun-filled trip.

歪み

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

木曜日もここ関門エリアでは陽気につつまれ、世間では賃上げの話題が注目されているようでした。

片田舎の安宿屋が、世代的には関係がなくなった今でも、どうして春闘のことを気にしているかというと、、、

それはゲストさんたち。

当宿のゲストさんの世代は２０代後半から４０代前半が大多数で、

その職業は国内外を問わず、フリーランスや非正規が多いからです。

企業に直接雇用されている正社員や、いってパートであれば賃上げへの距離感はありませんが、

雇用関係に仲介業者がいる派遣社員や、個人事業主として下請け扱いのフリーランスでは春闘など賃上げがどう生活改善につながるかは未知数です。

海外ならともかく、日本の企業風土でそこまで意識されているようには思えません。

ゲストさんみんなに笑って旅してほしいですね。
