With incredible expectation of this local area!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Land marked station of our town will have grand open this weekend.

The big event has been focused by TV, magazine, internet and so on.
Of course, local free paper released special article about this grand open.

The latest issue of the free paper has an article of talking between leader of regional development and president of JR Kyushu, who is the owner of this station. The article contains their enthusiasm and expectation toward grand opening, including heroic story of themselves.

According to the article, home of president’s childhood located in the neighborhood of this guesthouse. We can guess that the strait view of his memory is quite same as that of TOUKA’s guest rooms. (We are curious that what a old man he is, with reading paddle‐wheelers in the view of his memory.)

It is quite understandable for us that the strait view is still in his mind. Because we knows the view has been kept in the memories of our guests who stayed here even one night. (There are not a few guests who use the picture of this view for their SNS profile.)

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

今週末にグランドオープンを控えた、わが町のランドマーク・ステーション。

テレビ、雑誌、ネット上も注目されています。
もちろん地元のフリーペーパーでも特集記事が組まれています。

最新号では、地域振興のリーダーと、駅のオーナーでもあるJR九州の社長の対談が特集され、駅再開に向けての二人の意気込みと期待の高さと駅にまつわる武勇伝が載っています。

記事によると、JR九州社長のふるさとは当宿のすぐ近くだったようで、彼が見た思い出の景色は「灯火」から見る海峡の眺めとほぼ同じだったことが推測できます。（当時、海峡には石炭の外輪船が行き来していたそうで、どんだけご高齢なのかは気になりましたが、、、）

ここからの海峡の風景が、今でも彼の心に残っていることはわかる気がします。なぜなら一泊しかしないゲストの心にもしっかり残っているみたいだからです。（ご自身のSNSのプロフィール画像にここから見える景色を使っているゲスト、実は少なくありません。）

さて、何を語るのでしょう？！/ What will it talk about?!

What will it talk about?!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Yesterday, we saw quite more than usual number of caucasian tourists in this town. They seemed to be the passengers of huge English cruiser ship moored at Wakamatsu port.

Mojiko station is our town’s land mark, where cruiser boat passengers also visited. And next weekend will be the Grand Open of the station.

However, I am interested more in another “Opening” than station’s opening.
That is the shop, currently preparing for its opening behind this door.

What is interesting?
It is the unusual opening of nationwide chain shop in this town.

I have heard people were talking that this town is exclusive against anti-local chain store. Even the worldwide hamburger shop locates at outskirts of this town.

Honestly we cannot believe that the coffee shop, one of nationwide chain, will open a branch shop in this port town. So we are very interested in how the shop will change this town.

It may change tourists traffic diagram. We can imagine that many tourist will visit this shop and buy cold drink and board on the boat to the other side of strait to enjoy Sushi market in coming this summer. Like its design concept, it may tell the future story beyond our imagination.

By the way, I personally thought that it may be good for this town, if the coffee shop will open east quay new shopping mall under planning to be constructed soon. But it is beyond our imagination that they will open it in the station premises.

Manager of guesthouse without cafe facility are planning to relax himself at the terrace table watching tourists walking in weekday afternoon.

さて、何を語るのでしょう？！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

昨日の町中では白人の外国人観光客をたくさん見かけました。
イギリスの大型客船が若松の岸壁に着いた影響のようです。

そんなクルーザー客も訪れる門司港駅。
さぁ、次の週末はグランドオープンです。

自分には駅舎のグランドオープンより気になる「オープン」があります。
このドアの向こうで、誰もが知っているコーヒーショップが開店準備中です。

なにが気になるのか、、？
この町では非常に珍しい全国チェーン店の出店だからです。

人に聞いた話だと、この港町は非地場のチェーン店に対して排他的らしいのです。
世界のハンバーガーチェーン店ですら、町外れの更に外にしかありません。

そんな全国チェーンの中でも、あのコーヒーショップが出来るなんて！どんな風にこの港町を変えていくのか、気になって仕方ないです。

観光客の動線を変えるのは必至かもしれません。
この夏はこのお店で冷たい飲み物をテイクアウトした客が、そのまま渡船に乗り、デッキでドリンクと海風とを味わいながら、海峡の対岸にお寿司を食べに行く流れが出来そうですね。お店のコンセプトではないですが、想像を超えた未来ストーリーを語り継いでいくのかもしれません。

それにしても、東海岸の海沿いに建設が予定されている商業施設に出店したら良いだろうなとは思っていましたが、まさか駅の構内への出店とは！

カフェ併設のない宿の主人は平日のテラス席にでも陣取って、のんびり人の流れでも眺めていようかと考えています。

最初の犠牲者！/ The First Victim!

The First Victim!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

There was the first victim on Sunday, caused by JR timetable revision.

The victim: Korean, Male, Age = 30s.

He came by the morning flight and arrived at Kokura station 10:30.

He came to TOUKA to leave his baggage without listening our advice of going straight to sightseeing spot. It was after 11:00.

Yes, he wanted to go to Karato Market for sushi, as we guessed. But there is few train in that time since Saturday.

He had not only the risk of no chance taking pictures of photogenic displayed sushi, but also the risk* that he cannot eat sushi, because of sold-out, if he arrive there afternoon.
(*Lately, many guests complained “Too many people”, “No sushi in afternoon”.)

This time, TOUKA gave him special advice, however

JR Kyushu new timetable will continue for a year. They may reduce more train, if they will change again.

As we cannot make special advice for all guest in future, we decided to create our own “contingency plan”*. (*I used to be a professional of closing any troubles and have to utilize the skill.)

Tourism is the last resort of Japanese domestic economy. Damage caused by timetable revision may be small for individual guest level, but so many guests will suffer this trouble in public transportation. Bad rumor spread fast and less tourists interested in traveling northern Kyushu area. They already complaint about expensive price of JR tickets.

P.S. If local government have money to pay individual students loan, how about taking care for All tourists’ comfort transportation who will visit our city?

最初の犠牲者！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

この土曜日からの改正に、最初の犠牲者が出てしまいました。

犠牲者は、、、韓国人男性、30代。

日曜朝の便で到着し、小倉駅に10時半到着。
こちらからの観光スポット直行のアドバイスは聞かずに、荷物を預けに「灯火」に到着したのは11時を過ぎてから。

さあ、下関の唐戸市場に行こうとするも電車は極めて少ない。

このままではお昼前に市場に着くことはできず、フォトジェニックに陳列された寿司の写真どころか、売り切れも必須*！
（*最近、お昼頃出かけると食べたいネタが売り切れてたとゲストからの苦情も多い人気市場です。）

今回は「灯火」なりの特別なアドバイスをしましたが、、、

電車のダイヤはこの先一年変わるはずもなく、もし変わったとしても減便へ向かう方向性まで変えられません。

いつも「灯火」スペシャルアドバイスが出来るわけではないので、「灯火」独自のcontingency plan*を作成することにしました。（*サラリーマン時代にはリスクマネジメント専門、トラブル・クローザーですから、、、こんな時こそ活かさないとね。）

ツーリズムは沈みゆく日本（国内）経済のラストリゾート。今回のダイヤ改正、一人あたりの被害は軽度でも、何人もが犠牲になると公共交通機関に対する評価が下がり、観光客の足が遠退きます。ウワサはすぐに広がります。旅慣れたゲストの間での他国との料金比較による日本の公共交通機関の評価は低いことを知っている人は少ないようですが、、、
