Kitakyushu the Samurai City
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
On a sunny Sunday,
I went there after sending guest off, cleaning and washing.
The park locates on a hill above the tunnel which divides this town and neighbor town. Kanmon-kyo Bridge and the hill TOUKA locates can be seen from the park.
The event held in the park was “Musashi Kojiro Matsuri (Festival)” which praise two famous Samurai who fought on a small island in this straits.
It is not flashy, no so famous and local colored festival but TOUKA want to recommend this event. It is because it has a quite long history and this year was 67th event, and we can feel strong support from this area.
This year 2017, all programs went under the blue sky.
Each program does not need explanation. Anyone can understand impact and beauty of Japanese culture they has.
In the festival, not only BUDOU but also SADOU NODATE ( = open air tea ceremony) was demonstrated. So I want to recommend this to the tourists from foreign countries.
Before KENDO tournament, all students bowed to the both stone monuments of Musashi and Kojiro. I believe that it is very interesting experience to feel such Japanese politeness in Samurai. This is a good chance to know heart of Japanese BUDOU.
To this “Musashi Kojiro Matsuri” from TOUKA, it takes about 20min by using direct bus. Also their fighting field, “Ganryu-jima Island” can be seen clearly from guest room of TOUKA.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
晴天の日曜日。
チェックアウトのゲストを送り出し、掃除・洗濯を終えて、行ってきました。
その公園はとなり町との区境にあるトンネルの上、関門海峡を見下ろす小山の頂上にあり、遠く関門橋や「灯火」のある丘の斜面も望むことができます。
その公園で開催されたのは、かつてこの海峡に浮かぶ小島で、世紀の対決をくりひろげたサムライ宮本武蔵とサムライ佐々木小次郎とを称え、鎮魂を祈る「武蔵・小次郎まつり」
派手さはなく、知名度もそこそこ、地域志向の強い渋いイベントですが、「灯火」のオススメするお祭りです。なにより67回も続いていることに地域の支援、根強い人気を感じずにはいられません。
2017年は天気にも恵まれ、青空の下、奉納演武や剣舞、地区の小中学生剣道大会などが開催されました。
まつりの内容は解説するまでもなく、見ているだけで武道の迫力・美しさを感じることができます。武道だけでなく、茶道 野点（のだて）も行われ、海外からの旅行者にもイチオシです。
剣道大会に先駆けて、全参加者が武蔵・小次郎の両記念碑に向かって一礼するなど、日本の侍文化の伝承を感じることも出来る良いイベントだと思います。
尚、「武蔵・小次郎まつり」へは、ここ「灯火」よりバスで一本、20分程で行くことができます。 さらに武蔵・小次郎 実際の決戦の部隊「巌流島（旧称 舟島）」は「灯火」ゲストルームから見下ろす事が出来ます。
