What we are waiting for?!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

We will have Grand Open of Mojiko Station in this weekend.

As station building have been already open to public for four months, which was named as “partial open”, we don’t feel anything new about the building.
(It may be typical characteristic of Kitakyushu, to start business before Grand Open like Mikuni World (Soccer) Stadium.)

But what we are waiting for is the Genuine Grand Opening!

It is not only because the shop have never been opened even partially, but also because it is very first opening of Worldwide Brand Shop in this town. This can be Perry Expedition for local market.

We are not saying that we should welcome any type of worldwide brand shops. But we should accept fine/good thing from all over the world. Because the keyword of Mojiko tourism is “This port was once a busy trading port open to the world.” So we are expecting that the Grand Open of Starbucks will be the meaningful anniversary of opening Mojiko market.

P.S. By the way, we cannot understand why they set Grand Open of the station on the previous day of the Great East Japan Earthquake memorial day (3.11). Because Sunday is TAIAN ( = lucky day in Japanese calendar )?
Or because there are no one in staffs who have ever experienced volunteer work in TOHOKU ( = tsunami disaster area )?

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

この週末は門司港駅のグランドオープン。

駅舎自体は部分オープンとか なにかと理由をつけて、既に４ヶ月もの間 公開済みなので、すでにお腹いっぱいの感がありますが、、、
（ミクニ・ワールド・スタジアムといい、グランドオープン前にフライング営業するのは北九州気質なのかもしれませんが、、、統制とケジメは大切だと思います。）

部分オープンなどしていないので素直に新鮮なこともありますが、なんといっても時流に乗っている全世界チェーンの門司港初進出（グランドオープン）、ある意味、黒船出現です。

なんでもかんでも来て欲しいと言っているのではありませんが、良いものを受け入れる体質は不可欠だと思います。かつて「世界に開かれた貿易港だった」ことがウリの町ですしね。このグランドオープンが意義ある開港記念日になれば良いと思います。

P.S. それにしても駅のグランドオープン、なんで大震災の日の前日なんでしょう？ 大安だから？ スタッフに東北にボランティアとか行ったことある人がいないのかな？（さぁ これから数日、マスコミの関心も超特別になる期間です。）

とってもうれしいグランドオープン！/ Grand Open which makes us very happy!

Grand Open which makes us very happy!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

There have been various facilities and shops closing around this town, but we had one grand open which made us feel very safe as well as happy.

We are not talking about Mojiko Station.
It is a kind of station but not train station. It is about Fire Station.

Old building of “Moji fire station” has been rebuilt for 2 years, and new building was completed in this March.

Yesterday, I have a things to be consulted by fire department and visited Moji fire station. First I try to visit temporary office but all of their functions were moved to the original location. Old building built in during Japanese high-growth period became highly equipped brand new facility.

The brand new Moji fire station is locating only 690m far from TOUKA in a straight line. As they came back to the original location, both our guests and we can feel very safe now. Although TOUKA is fire/disaster conscious guesthouse but we cannot deny the possibility of unexpected accidents and diseases. So the nearby fire department can be one effective measure for them.

We really want our guests to stay with feeling relax and safe here.
(We think such invisible safety and relief very important management factor of our guesthouse.)

P.S. Note: We want all guests from foreign countries to take out travel insurance before leaving home countries. Guests often complain about expensive Japanese public transportation, but medical treatment costs way much than that (without insurance). So please take care!

とってもうれしいグランドオープン！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

いろんな施設・お店がどんどん閉まっていく我がふるさとにあって、とてもうれしい、正確にはとっても安心できるグランドオープンがありました。

門司港駅のことではありません。
ステーションはステーションでも、ファイヤーステーションの方です。

老朽化のため、建て直しされていた大川橋の「門司消防署」がきれいになって、この３月業務を再開しました。

用事があって、仮設庁舎の方に出向こうと思っていたら、すでに機能は元の場所に戻っていました。高度成長期に立てられたオンボロ建物あらため最新鋭の設備です。

新生門司消防署は「灯火」から直線距離で わずか690m。本来の場所に戻ってきたことで、ゲストの大切な命を預かる宿としては本当にありがたい・安心の施設です。「灯火」は極力火元を持たないオール電化の宿で、防火・防災意識高い系ゲストハウスですが、想定外の事故や病気の可能性（救急車の必要性）も無くはないので、これで万が一の場合も安心です。

ゲストの皆さんには安心して、ゆっくりくつろいでほしいです。
（「灯火」はこうした目に見えない安心を、最も大事だと考えています。）

P.S. お願い：ご自身の安心のためにも海外からの利用者みなさんは「旅行保険」に加入してご旅行くださいね。日本の公共交通機関は高いですが、医療費はそれとは比べ物にならないほど高額です（保険がないと）。

解決する気ある？ ない？/ The Solution is..!

The Solution is..!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

There is one typical story in Fukuoka pref. Japan. And we fully agree with it.

“Fukuoka city and Kitakyushu city see each other as a rival.”

However, now Fukuoka city is a high-flying local community and think nothing of Kitakyushu city. It is the sole winner all over Kyushu island.

On the other hand, new mayor was not selected at the election last month in Kitakyushu and there is no sign of positive evolution. We have seen expensive community PR but population has been flown out and this spring won’t be the exception.
( I personally like reducing population, because I can enjoy both space and time allowance very much here. So I’ve kept promoting our guest to move in this city with this sales points.)

No momentum of this city seems to affect various aspect. For example, city’s football team is on a losing streak last several seasons. They got a honorable title of lowest in lowest league last season. Since I came back home town, I have recognized the terror of negative spiral of the city.
( I was afraid that the team will demote again. But fortunately there is no league under current one. )

So I have proposed various strategies toward inbound market for my beloved home town to achieve dramatic recovery. Because we have heard from our guests that people are super kind in Kitakyushu and Kanmon but infrastructure for tourism was not developed yet. I kept quoting the idea from guests’ live voice to the officers, but there was no sign can be seen yet so far.

The biggest one of my proposals is:
“KITAKYUSHU TOURIST CITY PASS”.

We have no time to see Fukuoka city as a rival. We have been disappointed, every time we see used “FUKUOKA TOURIST CITY PASS” in our trash cans.

Why does the PASS exist in Fukuoka but Kitakyushu? According to my previous article, CEO of JR Kyushu understand the value of Kitakyushu very much. The thing we should do is that City of Kitakyushu become a promoter and coordinator with Nishitetsu Bus, JR Kagoshima-line and City monorail to connect all towns and spots. There is so many hidden spot to be explored by foreign tourists here. What they need is enthusiasm and motivation. Expensive investment is not needed now. Later, if they expand this scheme to Heisei-Chikuho-line, JR Chikuho-line and Hita-Hikosan-line, manifested issues may be solved by this activity.

I believe that this just “a piece of paper” can be the magic card of dynamic recovery/solution, including several fundamental issues local governments are facing now.

P.S. Just before releasing the article, I double checked and found there was the trial of the PASS I am proposing now. The trial was done in 2013. We are very disappointed that there is no good staffs who can understand the fundamental difference between Fukuoka Pass and Kitakyushu Pass.

解決する気ある？ ない？

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

「県民あるある」でよく聞く内容で、自分も同感・納得している現象があります。

「福岡市民と北九州市民はお互いをライバル視していて仲が悪い」

今や、福岡市はあらゆる面で飛ぶ鳥を落とす勢いで、もはや北九州市は眼中にすらない状態です。九州全体で見ても「一人勝ち」の様相です。

当の北九州市はというと、先月の市長選挙でも現職の再選となり、変化の兆しもなく、全国誌に大掛かりな自治体広告を出すも、人口はどんどん流出するばかりです。
（おかげで空間的、時間的な余裕すら生まれ、そこをセールスポイントに、ゲストに「移住してみない？」と声かけしているこの頃です。）

街の勢いの無さはサッカーチームにまで影響しているようです。J3へ降格するや二年で勝ち点でブッチギリの最下位です。Uターンして以来、負のスパイラルの怖さを実感しています。
（さらに降格するかと心配したら、J4はないことを知りました。ホッ）

そんな大好きな故郷に起死回生・形勢逆転の一手を打ってほしいと役所に提案し続けているのが、外国人旅行客です。感想としてゲストからよく聞くのは、住人と触れ合って直感する気持ちの温かさでは北九州・関門エリアは群を抜いて評価が高いのに、インフラがついていってないことです。当宿の中で実感する気付きは役所だけでなく、新聞等も利用して訴えているのですが、動く兆しはありません。

なかでも、是非とも実現してほしいのが
「KITAKYUSHU TOURIST CITY PASS」。

もはや ライバル視している状態ではありません。小森江のゲストハウスにあって、ゴミの中に使用済みの福岡市のパスを見つけるたびにガッカリします。

なぜ福岡市では実現できて、北九州市では実現できないのでしょう？ＪＲ九州の社長は北九州市の良さを分かっている強力な理解者です。あとは北九州市が推進・仲介者として、西鉄・JR鹿児島本線・自らが持つモノレールを繋ぎ、さらにそこから各町・スポットへと「絆」を拡げるだけです。そこには観光資源が眠っています。必要なのは熱意とヤル気。インフラ投資は決して大きくありません。もしさらにその後「絆」が平成筑豊鉄道やJR筑豊本線・日田彦山線にまで拡がるとしたら、、、

この「一枚の紙切れ」は地域の抱える問題も取り込んで、スパイラルも良い方向に形勢逆転する「魔法のお札」になる可能性を秘めています。

P.S. 発信する直前に調べたら、上記提案するようなパスは2013年10月12日～同12月8日の期間、試験的に導入されたことがあるようです。福岡市を真似したところまでは良かったようですが、外国人が視野にないこと、土日祝日だけという懐の狭さから、効果がなかったのか、継続されなかったようです。先見性・国際性・行動力の点で太刀打ちできないようです。残念っ！
