City lover? Local lover?

The host of this guesthouse loves exploring local supermarkets.

Through his past travels, he feels that there are two types of supermarket management patterns: urban and rural, and there is a big difference between them.

The difference is clearly reflected in their business hours and the way prepared foods are sold.

The situation at a supermarket in the city was also shown on a TV program he watched the other day.

The supermarket was a 24-hour low-cost store in Kita Ward, Osaka.

What was interesting was seeing very elderly customers come to the store at 3am in midnight.

According to them, they come because the price of prepared foods is reduced to half price at 3am.

Additionally, supermarkets in Tokyo do not offer half-price discounts before 11pm, and most items are sold out by the time the discount is applied.

Both of these measures are due to the fact that they are a store that caters to the consumers in each city, but he realized that living in a big city cannot be easy.

Deli dishes are often sold at half price between 7pm and 8pm.

In the countryside Japan, many stores seem to set their closing time of 9pm or 10pm.

都会派？ 地方派？

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

宿主が大好きな各地のスーパーマーケット探索。

旅を通して、スーパーマーケットの運営パターンに都会流と地方流があり、その間に大きな差があると感じています。

その違いは営業時間とお惣菜の売り方によく表れています。

そんな都会のスーパーマーケットの様子は、先日見たテレビ番組にも映し出されていました。

そのスーパーマーケットは大阪は北区にある２４時間営業の格安店でしたが、、、

興味深かったのは、かなりご高齢のお客が深夜３時にぞくぞくと来店する姿。

聞けば、深夜３時に一斉にお惣菜が半額になるとのこと、、、

信じられないっ！という感覚でその映像を見ていました。

東京のスーパーの場合、２３時前に半額値引きすることはなく、その時間までにはほとんど売り切れてしまいます。

どちらもその土地の消費者を相手にするお店ゆえの対応ですが、、つくづく都会は住みづらいなぁと思いました。

対して、この町を含めて地方では、、、

お惣菜のセールは１９時〜２０時までに半額になることが多いようです。

地方ではお店の閉店時間も２１時とか２２時に設定しているところが多いようです。

それでも売り切れない日があって、これは一重に人口密度と生活時間によるものだと考えます。

お店としては営業中の充実した品揃えをアピールする必要があるわけで、激しい雨の日などは大量の売れ残りも発生しているのが実態です。

それにしても、年老いてから深夜３時に半額お惣菜を求めてスーパーに行くと全て売り切れ、なんてそんな光景、想像するだけで哀しすぎです。

結局のところ、都会の老人、地方の老人、どっちが幸せなんでしょうね？
