Let’s go to far away in Autumn Holiday!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
In Japan, today is the start of 3 days autumn holiday.
I am going to the place which is very very far.
It takes approx. 200 miles, no 200 years from now.
I love watching Maps, specially old one.
Attached picture is the map of Kanmon made in Edo era, which is the oldest one I have ever seen.
Famous officer, Mr. Tadataka Inou’s team made this. On his map, current shore line is drawn by red line.
According to this map, Komorie area was on the land, compare with Mojiko
and Shimonoseki, in the ocean.
It is fun to imagine what kind of view/scene could be seen from here.
I really want to climb our usual mountain and see whole Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu of Edo era from there. How were the ships in those days?
I don’t think we need to open our eyes there. We only need to open our eyes of imagination.
Don’t you come here and watch the Kanmon View of 200 years ago?
If you have good eyes, you can see 1000 years ago too.

秋の連休はず〜っと遠くへ！
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
日本では今日は3連休の初日です。
せっかくの連休なので、遠いところへ行くことにしました。
ここから200マイル、いやいや200年ほど前へ。
旅行好きということもあって、わたしは地図をみるのが大好きです。
それも古い地図、古地図を見るのが、、、
画像は自分の見た中で、最も古い関門の地図です。
かの有名な伊能地図の一部だそうで、現在の海岸線が赤線で付記されています。
この地図をみると、小森江はあまり海岸線は変わっていないようです。
比べて門司港や下関のほとんどは海の中。
当時、ここからどんな景色が見えただろうと想像するだけでワクワクします。
できれば、いつもの裏山に登り、そこから見える江戸時代の下関・北九州を一望してみたいですね。 当時の舟はどんなだったでしょう。急流にエンジン無しです。
今でも江戸時代の景色を見るのに山に登れば、そこで目を開ける必要はありません。ただ想像力の目を開くだけで200年前の景色が飛び込んできます。
今回古地図を見て驚いたのは、小森江地区、海岸線が変わらないだけでなく「砂浜」だったことです。あんなに急流で弧の外側なのに砂浜、どうしてでしょう？ ニッカウィスキーの沖合が浅く瀬になっていて、波が盛り上がるのも同じ理由なのかもしれませんね。
そんな感じで想像はドンドン広がっていきます。郷土なのに、、、
一度、ここ「灯火」に来て、200年前の関門海峡を見てみませんか？ もし良い目をもっていれば、200年前だけでなく、1000年でも2000年前でも見ることが出来ると思います。
さて、せっかくの連休です。どちらに行かれますか？
