Another way to escape the summer heat… inspired by the magazines
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
On Sunday evening, the sky over the Kanmon Strait was shining beautifully.
This was due to the high moisture content in the air – a sign that the following day would be hot and humid.
Come to think of it, there was a Sunday recently in Tokyo, too, when the following day turned out to be muggy.
The host, who disliked the hot and humid climate, racked his brain for a way to avoid it.
So, the answer he found was…
The magazines he had gotten a few days ago caught his eye.
“Man, I’d love to catch one of these…”
That’s it – let’s head to the mountains!
So, he set out before the sky brightened at the start of the week, driving to stay ahead of the morning sunlight closing in from behind, and arrived at a valley at an altitude of about 800 meters.
And so, keeping a lookout for bears, he cast the line there until midday.
As a result, the day’s catch was…
It turned out to be a fantastic fishing trip; he started off by catching a Yamame trout measuring 28 cm – a little shorter than the 30 cm (shaku) mark – and also landed a Iwana (whitespotted char).
He was able to encounter beautiful mountain stream fish that were every bit as stunning as those featured in the magazine that inspired him to come to the stream.
It takes roughly an hour one way from Tokyo, with round-trip highway tolls costing 1,500 JPY; he was able to fully enjoy an outdoor escape – perfect for beating the heat – at what is likely the mountain stream closest to the city center where wild char (iwana) can be found.
The host might actually lead a more outdoorsy lifestyle when he is in Tokyo.

もうひとつの避暑、、、雑誌に刺激されて
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
日曜の夕方、関門の空はとてもきれいに輝いていました。
これは空気中の水分量が多いためで、つまり翌日は蒸し暑くなるという予兆です。
そういえば、翌日が蒸し暑くなる、、という日曜日は先日の東京でもありました。
蒸し暑い気候を好まない宿主は、なんとかその気候を回避する方法を思案しました。
で、見つけた答えは、、、
少し前に手に入れていた雑誌が目に留まりました。
「こんなの釣りてぇなぁ、、、」
そうだ、山行こう！
というわけで、週明けの空が明るくなる前に出発し、背後から迫ってくる朝の陽の光に追い越されないように車を走らせて、高度800メートルほどの谷にたどり着きました。
そしてそこでお昼まで、クマの出現を注意しながら、竿を出したのでした。
その結果、この日の釣果は、、、
28cmと残念ながら尺にちょっと足りないヤマメをはじめに、イワナも釣れて、とても良い釣行ととなりました。
きっかけとなった雑誌に載っていた魚たちに勝るとも劣らないきれいな渓流魚に出会うことができました。
東京から片道おおよそ１時間、高速代も往復で1,500円、、、おそらく都心から最も近い天然イワナの住む沢で、避暑に最適なアウトドアを満喫できました。
もしかしたら、宿主は東京にいる時の方がよりアウトドアな生活をしているかもしれませんね。
