The true essence of “OMOTENASHI” in a late-night TV drama!

The late-night drama that aired on Tuesdays at 10 PM on Japan’s public broadcaster NHK was very interesting.
It was a dramatized portrayal of the life of a giant in Japanese food and beauty.

OMOTENASHI (Japanese hospitality) expressed in that drama was very educational.
The OMOTENASHI should never be forced upon someone, nor should it be publicly declared as such.
The OMOTENASHI offered may go unnoticed by many, but
I felt that when the recipient has a rich sensibility and recognizes it, it becomes the ultimate hospitality.
If you work in a customer service role in Japan, I highly recommend watching this drama.
Even at our inn, most guests don’t notice it, and I think that’s fine.
However, occasionally, we have guests who can notice it and are deeply moved by it.
There are moments like this when I truly feel grateful to be doing this job.
But, recently, it seems that many guests from a certain country are eager to publicize the hospitality they receive,
and are promoting us on our behalf through social media and video streaming.
However the way we treat each guest is different, yet…
Even such OMOTENASHI can only be conveyed to the person who receives it.
To be honest, since this is Japan, I wish our guests would be more reserved and enjoy interacting with the hosts without saying a word…

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
日本の公共放送NHKが放映した火曜日22時の深夜ドラマがとても興味深かった。
にっぽんの食と美の巨人の生活をドラマ仕立てにしたものでした。

その中で表現された「おもてなし」のかたちがとても勉強になりました。
けっして押しつけになってはいけないし、それを公言するものでもない。
施されたおもてなしは、もしかしたら気付かれない者の方が多いけれども、
受けた方の感性も豊かだと、それが認識された瞬間に、最高のおもてなしとして成立するんだと感じました。
この国、日本で、接客を生業にされる方は、是非一度このドラマ見られるのがよろしいかと思います。
かくいう当宿のそれも、気付かないゲストさんが大半で、それはそれで良いと思っています。
けれども、まれにそれに気付いて、感動してくれるゲストさんがいらっしゃいます。
その瞬間にこの仕事していて良かったなぁと心から感じることがあります。
ただ、最近、とある国からいらっしゃるゲストさんには受けたおもてなしを公表したがる方が多いようで、
SNS等や動画配信を通して、宿に変わって宣伝してくれているようなのですが、、、
ゲストさんひとりひとりでおもてなしは異なるものなのに、、、
受けた人でないとその実は伝わらないのにね。
本心をいうと、ここは日本だから、もっと奥ゆかしく、口にも出さずに宿主側とのやりとりを楽しんでもらいたいのですが、、、
まぁ、それは無理かなぁ？
