Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
I rode the Hitahikosan Line for the first time in a while.
Looking at it from the perspective of a foreign traveler, I could notice many things. So I think we can give useful advice to future guests.
First of all,
there is nothing in the station.
You cannot use any IC cards issued by transportation companies.
Because there are no automatic ticket gates.
The ticket vending machine cannot accept anything other than 1000 yen bills.
Foreigners who are accustomed to going cashless may be speechless, when they see this.
Maybe you can pay in the train like you would on a bus. There is a fare list and fare box inside the train. But I cannot guarantee that you can exchange bill to small change.
（As the notice on the platform says, some people may not use the ticket gates.)
Secondly, tickets are expensive!
It cost me 480JPY one way from/to Komorie Station.
Additionally, there are no toilets at the station.
In the emergency situation, the town’s only supermarket, run by a relative of the Most Famous Person in Kitakyushu, is the place to go. Let’s dash to the market? (butcher?)
When I thought about this, I was able to realize once again that JR Komorie Station, the nearest station to our guesthouse, is also a small and unmanned station in Kitakyushu City, but it’s not that inconvenient.
( There is an automatic ticket gate, so you can use transportation IC cards, and I recently learned that they also accept credit cards and other cashless payments (I found this out after searching with the guests a few weeks ago). smile)
In the first place, since you can’t go to either HITA or Mt. HIKOSAN on this railway, I was left wondering if it’s okay to keep the name as is still.
（Am I the only one who thinks that JR Kyushu, which has decided not to restore the railway to those points, should change its name to something more correct?）

市内ローカル電車の旅
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。
ひさしぶりに「日田彦山線」に乗ってみました。
外国人旅行者になった目で見ると、色々な気付きがあって、今後いらっしゃるゲストさんに有効なアドバイスができそうです。
まず、、、
駅にはな〜んにもない。
交通系各社が出しているICカードはどこのカードもつかえません。
なぜなら自動改札機がないから、、、
切符販売機も1000円紙幣以外は使えません。
キャッシュレスになれている外国人は絶句するかもしれませんね。
もしかしたら、乗合バスのように車内で清算できるのかもしれません。車内に料金表・料金箱あるので、、、両替できるかは未知数ですけれど。
（ホームの注意書きにもあるように改札を使わない人もいるの・か・も・しれませんね。）
次に、切符が高いっ！
小森江駅から／まで片道480円もかかってしまいました。田舎という別世界への遊覧乗車と考えましょう！
さらに、、、駅にはトイレもありません。
緊急事態には、今、この街北九州で一番有名な人の親族が経営する町唯一のスーパー？（肉屋？）までダッシュしましょう！
そう考えると、当宿最寄りの「JR小森江駅」も北九州市内にあって小さくて無人駅（になってしまった）ですが、ここまで不便ではないよなと、あらためて認識することができました。
（自動改札あるので交通系ICカードは使えるし、最近になってクレジット等キャッシュレスにも対応していることを知りました＝ゲストさんたちと探して知りました。笑）
そもそも、日田にも彦山にもこの鉄道で行けないのに、名前はこのままで良いのか今回一番の疑問が残りましたが、、、
（そこまでの鉄道を復旧しないことを決めたJR九州は名称も正しいものに変えるべきだと思うのは自分だけかな？）
