Japanese Title (邦題)： 「遠いようで近い、向こう側」末尾に
“Looks far but close… the other side”
The last day of OBON holiday, Aug.15, I can hear dram sound like Japanese festival from out side of window.
I thought that there may be BON Dance somewhere around here. So I rode on my bicycle and run down the slope.
However the dram sound became lower and I could not find where someone doing BON Dance anywhere around here. I listen carefully and peddle bicycle to the sound and I came to the quay finally. Of course, no one there.
Surprisingly, the sound came from the other side of strait.
I went back to my desk, and checked the internet but no information about BON Dance. Suddenly I remember one thing, and find one picture in my camera, which was taken when I visit there.
Dram rhythm, a little melancholic sound, was called “HEIKE DAIKO”. It made my sense. ( = HEIKE is a Samurai Family, destroyed in this strait about 800 years ago.)
The other side of Kanmon strait, looks far but close. I recognized again.

The next day, Aug. 16, I could see fireworks on the other side, Hikoshima Island.

お盆も終わる15日、書類を整理していると、受付の窓の外からお囃子のような音が聞こえてきました。
時節柄「盆踊り」を近所でやっているのかなと、画像取得を目的にカメラを首から下げてチャリンコに飛び乗り、宿の前の坂を駆けおりました。
ところが、坂を下るとかえってお囃子の音は小さくなり、盆踊りをしているような雰囲気の場所は小森江周辺にはどこにも見つかりません。耳を済ましてかすかに聞こえるお囃子の方向に自転車を漕いでいくと、海岸まで出てしまいました。
なんとお囃子は海峡の向こう、彦島から聞こえていたみたいです。
宿に戻り、パソコンで15日盆踊りをやっている周辺の情報を調べても何もヒットしません。ふと思い出して先日対岸で撮った画像をめくってみると、たしかにありました。盆踊りを告知するポスターが、、、
聞き慣れない節のどことなく物哀しい太鼓は「平家太鼓」というようで納得です。
関門海峡、、、遠いようで近い、海の向こう側、、、再認識しました。

追記： 翌8月16日、ゲストルームの窓からは対岸の彦島の向こうにあがる花火も見えていました。
