My only view spot!

About the convenient store with Mt. Fuji in the background,

It seemed like there were far more Asian tourists than Western tourists hanging around the area.

Does this mean that Asians, including Japanese people, tend to jump on things and trends that some others said good?

That may be fine when the country is still developing (not just the economy, but also the culture and lifestyle), but

I felt that it would be better to shift to a style of developing unique routes, taking a step back and looking at this over-tourism.

It may be that their attitude toward travel is still developing, and they prioritize to visit that spot, even if there are no view of the mountain.

For example, if you choose the time and place of the super popular spot Mt. Fuji,

自分だけの観光スポット！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

富士山を担ぐコンビニですが、、、

どうもその周辺にたむろしていたのは、欧米人観光客よりもアジア人観光客の方がはるかに多いように思いました。

これって日本人も含めて、他人が良いと言った物や流行りに飛びつく傾向がアジア人にはあるということでしょうか。

発展途上（経済だけでなく、文化やライフスタイルが）の頃には、まだそれでも良いのかもしれませんが、、、

そろそろ独自路線を開拓するスタイルにするほうが良いだろうと、オーバーツーリズムを一歩引いて眺めて感じました。

旅に対する姿勢の発展途上が、山はなくてもスポット優先で見物に行くという行動になるのかもしれませんね。

例えば、そんな超人気スポットの富士山だって、

自分なりに時と場所を選べば、

ゲストから教わった味 / The taste learned from our guest

The taste learned from our guest

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

I previously wrote about hearing various stories from guests who use our guesthouse, but…

It’s not just stories that are taught.

This time, we tried the “taste” that we learned from a guest.

We were told that it was available at an imported food store, so we asked at a nationwide franchise store in this city, and even though it was sold under that store’s brand, the store clerk couldn’t find it right away. 

Yes, it may be a well-known flavor to people in Tokyo, but local region (is it just this city?) is weak against new flavors, especially ethnic flavors.

(For example, delicatessen in supermarkets, such as gapao rice and tandoori chicken, always go unsold, though local supermarkets are taking on the challenge.)

So, we immediately tried adding the spices o the charcoal-grilled chicken we always do at our guesthouse.

Then…

the chicken that was just grilled turned into tandoori chicken with a deep flavor quickly.

The next day, we tried it on Japanese food that the host always likes to eat, and found it was so delicious!

Since then, it has become an indispensable spice at our dining table, especially at BBQ.

ゲストから教わった味

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

当宿を利用されるゲストさんからいろんな話を聞くという話を以前記事にしましたが、、、

教わるのは話だけではありません。

今回、ゲストさんから教わった「味」を試してみました。

輸入食材店で入手可能だということだったので、市内にある全国系のあの店で聞いたところ、そのお店のブランドで販売しているにも関わらず、店員さんはすぐに見つけることができませんでした。

そう、東京の人には当たり前の味かもしれませんが、そのくらい地方（この街だけ？）は新しい味＝特にエスニック系に弱いんです。

（例えば、お惣菜のガパオライスやタンドリーチキンはいつも売れ残ります。地元スーパーはチャレンジしているんですけどね。）

というわけで、早速、その教わったスパイスを当宿恒例の炭火でチキンを焼いたものにつけて食べてみました。

すると、、、

焼いただけのチキンが、あっという間に奥深い味のタンドリーチキンになってしまいました。

その翌日、宿主がいつも好んで食する日本的食材にも試したところ、これまた美味！

以来、当宿の食卓、特にBBQには欠かせない味になってしまいました。

至高の楽しみ 〜 当宿の秘密 / Supreme fun – Secret of this guesthouse

Supreme fun – Secret of this guesthouse

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Next month (50 more days to be exact) it will be 8 years since we opened our guesthouse.

Some of our competitors have withdrawn, and before we knew it, we had become the oldest guesthouse here in the Kanmon area.

During those 8 years, I have learned through experience

that the best part of running a guest house is

“conversation and communication with our guests”.

We hear stories from our guests about their countries, the latest information and concerns of their generation, and recently we even hear from our guests about things that we didn’t know about this town.

Many of the new lodgings these days in Japan offer rooms without interacting with guests at all, or leave the point of contact with guests to young staffs.

Speaking from my own experience, I can’t understand how a host, who invested the most time and money in opening a lodging, would skip the most fun part.

What a lonely “hospitality” where the only return is the MONEY!

If real human relationships are the greatest joy in human life, I feel that running an inn is the greatest opportunity to experience that joy.

至高の楽しみ 〜 当宿の秘密

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

当ゲストハウスを開業して、早いもので来月には（正確にはあと５０日で）８年になります。

同業者の撤退等もあり、気がつけば、いつの間にかここ関門エリアで最古参のゲストハウスになってしまいました。

そんな８年間の経験の中で体験・実感を重ねて分かってきたのが、、、

ゲストハウス運営の最高の楽しみが、

「ゲストさんたちとの会話・コミュニケーション」だということ。

ゲストさんたちのお国の話、ゲストさんたち世代の最新情報や悩み事、最近ではゲストさんからこの町の知らなかった裏事情まで教えてもらったりするほどです。

最近の新手の宿屋の中にはゲストさんと全く接することなくお部屋を提供したり、ゲストさんとのコンタクト窓口を若いスタッフに任せるところも少なくありません。

当宿感覚で言えば、時間とお金を一番投資して開業した宿主が一番楽しいところをすっ飛ばす感覚がもったいなさすぎて理解できません。

お金だけがリターン、、、なんて淋しい「おもてなし」でしょう！

リアルな人間関係こそが人としての人生最大の醍醐味であれば、宿屋をやりくりするのはその醍醐味を味わう最大のチャンスだと実感します。
